A man convicted of manslaughter 15 years ago for the death of a Wayne County man in a car accident is again charged with being responsible for a highway death.

Tyron Price Daley was found guilty in the death of Ronald Frederick Proctor in 1990. Proctor, who lived in Goldsboro, was killed when Daley's car crossed the center line on N.C. 13 near Snow Hill and hit him head-on. Daley had been drinking at the time of the accident.

Last month, Daley was charged with two counts of second-degree murder when a vehicle he was driving was involved in an accident that killed two people -- Dan Wiggins and Christine McGinty -- near Williamston.

Daley, 40, was again charged with drunken driving.

Lisa Roberts was engaged to Proctor and was with him when he was killed. She said the news that Daley had been involved in another deadly accident brought back horrible memories.

"I can remember the car coming towards us. It wasn't stopping and I knew we were going to get hit," she said.

Roberts believes Daley was not punished enough for Proctor's death. Daley received six years in prison but was granted immediate work release on the condition that his license be suspended and that he complete alcohol abuse treatment.

"He (Daly) didn't learn," Mrs. Roberts said. "Who knows how many times he's been out drinking and driving since then. And now, he's gone and killed two more people."

Mrs. Roberts said drunk drivers too often plead guilty to lesser offenses and are soon back on the road.

She noted the upcoming holiday weekend and said many people will likely get behind the wheel when they have been drinking. They should remember that their decision could end up costing someone's life, she said.

"People think they are invincible and it won't happen to them," she said. "If you're going to drink and drive, you need to be put behind bars."
