Stoney Creek Park public hearing January 5

The Stoney Creek Park Development Committee will hold a public hearing Jan. 5 at 7 p.m. in the Gray Room at Herman Park Center to allow residents an opportunity to discuss the project with officials and park designers.
Recreation and Parks Director Neil Bartlett, who also serves as a member of the committee, said the drawings are complete and ready for review by officials and the public.
"We would like as many people to come out as possible," Bartlett said.
This is the final drawing of Stoney Creek Park as prepared by Kimley-Horn and Associates. It includes a six-acre lake, community gardens and a disc golf course. The Stoney Creek Park Development Committee will go over the projectÍs master plan with residents Jan. 5 at Herman Park Center.

The City Council approved Kimley-Horn and Associates' preliminary design of the park at their meeting Nov. 7 and told committee members to move forward with the project.
Now that the plan is complete, officials will begin looking at ways to finance the project, which is expected to cost about $2 million.
Bartlett said he hopes roughly $500,000 will come from a Parks and Recreation Trust Fund Grant, which the city will apply for in the coming weeks.
The park will include numerous features, including a six-acre lake. Trails and walking paths will allow visitors to navigate around the area with ease, as they take in the new sights -- a community garden area, children at play on a passive lawn or folks skipping rocks on the creek.
The plan also includes a disc golf course, which plays like golf but uses Frisbees aimed at chain baskets. The park will have an informal stage area as well, perfect for a birthday party magic show.
Officials said they hope many residents will attend the public meeting next week for an in-depth examination of the drawings, cost analysis and other elements of the project, especially those who live in the area lining the existing Stoney Creek Park.
