A new, digital marketing tool is expected to help boost the Wayne County Chamber of Commerce and eventually the businesses that are members of the organization.

The chamber has contracted with JMAC Multimedia to create a Dcard, or digital business card, that includes a digital presentation of the benefits of chamber membership.

The card is a fully interactive CD-ROM the size of a business card. Inserted into an IBM-compatible personal computer, the card launches a presentation that promotes chamber activities and opportunities for its membership to improve their bottom line. It also provides Internet links to the chamber's Web site and other Wayne County-related Web sites.

Wayne County Chamber of Commerce recently unveiled its new digital business card.

Experts say the cards give potential business clients a more engaging glimpse into a company or organization's workings. By including links to the company or organization's Web site, business owners can guide interested visitors directly to their product line.

Chamber President Steve Hicks said the cards will help the chamber and its members keep up with the latest advances in marketing.

"We're real excited to have this as part of our chamber marketing program," Hicks said.

The presentation on the card features appearances by a number of chamber members, including Hicks and Patty Graham, the chamber's director of membership and marketing.

"It's a completely interactive presentation," said James McLeod of JMAC Multimedia, the developer of the card. The contents of the card's program can contain audiovisual brochures, interactive direct mail, software samplers and multimedia presentations.

The card also maintains a record of its use, so chamber officials can monitor how often they are viewed. Future versions of the card can be improved or customized depending on the results of the initial version. Jay Memmelaar, area sales representative with JMAC, called the card a "self-healing marketing piece."

Hicks said as new versions of the card are produced, chamber members will have an opportunity to advertise on them.
