Local organizations lend helping hand during holidays

Several Wayne County groups lent a helping hand to people in need during the holidays.

*Employees at Tar Heel Home Health held a food drive in support of the Salvation Army. The food collected will be used to help the organization in its efforts to assist the needy during the winter months.

*Students at Southern Academy spread Christmas cheer to the residents of Sun Bridge Nursing Home by playing games with them and singing Christmas carols. Taking part in the activities were Seth Williams, Tiffany Oliver, Latesha Pearsall, Alvante Boyette, Madeline Lampley, Tenisha Gibson, Wyatt Horne, Andrea Broadie, Courtney Bailey, Tabatha Wood, Cortney Kelly, Kevon Padgett and Frederick Ward. Organizers were Annie Moses and Dawn Knowles.

*Youth at Fremont Holiness Church conducted a number of activities. They decorated a Christmas tree for residents of Countryside Assisted Living in Pikeville, created 51 boxes of gifts for Operation Christmas Child, donated a box of toys to the Wayne County Lighthouse and sang Christmas carols and delivered fruit bags and other gifts to residents at Fremont Rest Center, the Kitty Askins Hospice Center and Countryside Assisted Living as well as several private homes. They also made cash donations to missionaries in several fields.
