Fleeing driver
skids into police car
A 58-year-old driver from Goldsboro, fleeing from Goldsboro police, was injured in a collision with a patrol car at 3:50 a.m. today in a field off Poplar Street near Newsome Street, police said.
Duncan E. Jackson, who did not disclose a home address, was being pursued by Officer James Holland, the report said. Jackson drove into a field and tried to make a U-turn but lost control of the sport utility vehicle and slid into Holland's patrol car, the report said.
Jackson was charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid a collision. Other charges are pending. Jackson was treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital. The SUV, valued at $8,000, had been reported stolen 30 minutes earlier from the 700 block of Franklin Street. It was registered to Hector Alberto Cuevas of Dudley.
Damage was estimated at $3,500 to the 1995 Chevrolet SUV and $5,000 to Holland's patrol car.
Driver sought
The Highway Patrol is seeking information on a hit-and-run driver after a three-vehicle collision at 6:45 p.m. Friday at U.S. 70 and Beston Road.
The southbound driver ran a stop sign and the 1995 Ford van that he was driving crashed into the side of an eastbound car. The van then ricocheted into a stopped, northbound car.
A passenger in the northbound car, Kathleen Hinson, 64, of South Beston Road, LaGrange, was injured. She was released after emergency-room treatment at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
The hit-and-run van was registered to Graciano Ochoa Bermudez of Tabor City. The driver was described as a Hispanic male who wore a red shirt. He was seen running through Walnut Creek. The van, valued at $3,000, was destroyed.
The eastbound car was driven by Richard Allen Huberman, 57, of Kinston. The 2006 Mercedes Benz, valued at $30,000, was demolished. The southbound motorist was identified as Kimberly H. Fordham, 43, of Kinston. The 1986 Pontiac sustained about $1,000 in damages.
*Damages were estimated at $5,500 in a two-vehicle crash at 10:01 a.m. Friday at Indian Springs and Northeast Church roads, the Highway Patrol said. Magono Leonel Velasquez, 20, of Indian Springs Road, Seven Springs, was charged with a stop-sign violation.
*Damages were estimated at $7,545 in a three-car collision at 3:40 p.m. Wednesday on Old Grantham Road near Blackjack Church Road, the Highway Patrol said. Aimee Strawn King, 22, of Tarheel Pine Drive, was charged with failure to reduce speed.
Gifts stolen
A thief damaged a car window Sunday in the Target parking lot at 1204 Sunburst Drive and stole $450 worth of Christmas presents, Goldsboro police reported. Vickie Hinson of LaGrange estimated damage at $150.
Police are investigating these other reports:
*A handgun, a stereo system, athletic shoes, 20 DVD movies, five bottles of a man's cologne, 10 baseball hats and an unknown amount of cash were stolen Saturday from an apartment in the 400 block of North Hillcrest Drive. Derrick Devon Manley, put a $1,600 value on the property.
*A hand-held computer was stolen Sunday from a car in a restaurant parking lot at 1324 W. Grantham St. Brooke Foley said the computer was worth $400. Damage was set at $400.
*Clothing, a toy car, tobacco, signs and a cup holder were stolen Sunday from a car in a parking lot at 707 E. Dr. M.L. King Jr. Expressway. Rachel K. Mullins of Pikeville, estimated the property's value at $159 and damage at $100.
*More than $2,000 was stolen between Saturday and Sunday from an office at I.P.I. 621-D N. Berkeley Blvd.. No sign of forced entry was found.
Break-ins
Wayne County sheriff's deputies are investigating these reports:
*A compact disc changer, a stereo receiver, a color television, two speakers, a video cassette recorder and a window air conditioner were stolen between Tuesday and Saturday from a home in the 4500 block of N.C. 111 South, deputies said. W.J. Garner estimated the value of the stolen property at $2,259 and damages at $350.
*$200 was stolen between Saturday and Sunday from the Rosewood Foodliner at 805 Rosewood Road. Damages were set at $500.
