A 58-year-old man was arrested Monday by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office and charged for the second time within 14 months with a sex offense involving a child.
Elijah Bryant Pate of Richfield Drive, Dudley, was charged with indecent liberties with a child, a 9-year-old girl. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $12,500 secured bond. His first court appearance was scheduled for today.
Pate also was charged in October 2004 with a first-degree sex offense with another victim, an 8-year-old girl. His original secured bond was reduced to $25,000. He posted the amount and was released from custody.
Pate has been indicted by the Wayne County Grand Jury on the charge and is awaiting trial.
Detective Sgt. Tammy Odom investigated both cases.
