Rescue, fire and sheriff's personnel tend to two people who were injured in a one-car wreck at 5:30 a.m. Sunday on Rosewood Road near N.C. 581. The driver, Santos Castro Manzanares, 29, and his passenger, Ama Melendez Diaz, 27, both of West Lockhaven Drive, were taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital, stabilized and then transferred to Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville. Manzanares was charged with suspicion of driving while impaired and reckless driving. The 2002 Saturn ran off the left side in a curve, struck a ditch and overturned into a tree. The car, valued at $3,000, was demolished.
