KENANSVILLE -- The Kenansville Town Board wants to talk with the Duplin County commissioners about the proposed annexation of Duplin Commons.
Kenansville Mayor Betty Long said the town board members want to discuss with county commissioners several issues they have with the board's annexation request at the commission's first meeting of 2006, which is scheduled for Jan. 9 at the County Administration Building.
The town board is specifically concerned with the liability as well as what obligations Kenansville would incur for utilities and maintenance, Mrs. Long said.
She added that she is also concerned that the town's police department, which consists of a chief and three officers, could not handle the traffic and security when 15,000 people converge at the events center.
The county commission will have a work session from 1 to 5 p.m. Dec. 19 in the conference room at the Cooperative Extension Service Building at Duplin Commons.
The county commissioners will then meet at 6:30 p.m. the same day for their periodic night meeting, which will be in the large meeting room at the Cooperative Extension Ser-vice.
