Holiday events on tap this weekend and beyond

Several Wayne County historical groups are planning Christmas events and invite the public to attend.
Waynesborough
Christmas
Waynesborough Historical Village will host "Christmas In The Village" from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday. Musical groups, including the Wayco Ramblers, St. Luke Methodist Church Youth Choir and Youth Bell Choir will perform in the visitor's center, where refreshments will be served. Historical buildings will be in decorated for Christmas as they would have been in the 1800s and Members of the Daughters of the American Revolution will be in period dress. Santa and Mrs. Claus will arrive at 4 p.m. to read "T'was the Night Before Christmas" to children. Admission is free.
Historic Homes Tour
The Olde Goldsborough Holiday Historic Homes Tour will take place Sunday, from 2 to 6 p.m. Tour groups will depart from the Herman Park House to visit nine homes and Goldsboro High School. Tours are self-guided. Cecilia Budd Grimes, author of "What It Means to Be Southern," will sign copies of her new book, "What It Means to Raise a Child With Southern Manners," at 809 Park Avenue in the Yelverton-Vinson House. Coinciding with the tour is an oyster roast at the Oettinger-Spicer House at 619 Park Ave., from 4 to 7 p.m. Tickets are $17 at the door and $10 for students. Oyster roast tickets are $25 at the door. Combination tickets are $40 at the door. Tour proceeds will benefit the Paramount Theater Reconstruction.
Eureka Parade
Eureka's annual Christmas parade will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. Lineup begins at 2 p.m. on Davis Street. Canned foods will be accepted as entry fees.
Museum Toy Drive
Beginning Saturday, Dec. 17, and lasting through Friday, Dec. 23, the Wayne County Historical Association is hosting a "North & South" toy drive at the Wayne County Museum. Donors are asked to drop off toys into designated barrels on the porch of the William Street building. Information: 734-5023.
