FFA chapter brings coats for children at elementary school

MOUNT OLIVE -- As temperatures dropped this week, members of the Mount Olive Collegiate Chapter of the Future Farmers of America helped warm up some students at Carver Elementary School.
The chapter helped spread Christmas cheer early for 58 children at the school.

In a joint project with Coats for Kids, an organization that helps provide new coats for needy children, six members of the MOC club raised $950 during a two-week fundraiser. Students solicited gifts from individuals and businesses. Through the Coats for Kids organization, 58 new coats were purchased and distributed this week at Carver.
Dr. H. Don Scott, director of the agribusiness center at the college, said the project was also rewarding for the students who participated in the drive.
"One of the purposes of CFFA is to provide opportunities for college students to engage in activities of leadership and service," he said. "The Coats for Kids project is an excellent example where our MOC students have chosen to get involved in making positive contributions to the local Mount Olive area."
Students involved in the fundraiser were April Rouse of Seven Springs, Amy Moody of Smithfield, Ryan Barham of Rolesville and Christopher Mize, Dale Winstead and Stephanie Frederick, all from Spring Hope.
