Mount Olive Chamber will choose new chief

MOUNT OLIVE -- The Mount Olive Area Chamber of Commerce has bought out the new president's contract after only four months.
The chamber announced Wednesday that its executive committee "exercised its option to not renew the annual contract for Kelley Castle," who became the chamber president on July 25.
Kim Bowers, chairman of the chamber board, said in a news release that the board "appreciates the services of Mrs. Castle during 2005 and extends warm wishes for her future endeavors."
She did not indicate why the board chose to terminate the president's contract.
Calls to Ms. Bowers were not returned by presstime.
Mrs. Castle was chosen this summer because of her marketing and grant-writing expertise, according to chamber officials. She was the board's first choice to replace retiring chamber president Patti O'Donoghue, who left the chamber after 12 years of service to write a book.
Mrs. Castle declined to comment on the board's decision or her future plans.
The chamber will be advertising for the position soon, Ms. Bowers said in the statement. She said anyone who meets the qualifications and who is interested in the job is encouraged to call 658-3113.
In the interim, chamber secretary Linda Outlaw and the chamber executive committee will carry on the day-to-day functions of the chamber. Member support activities also will proceed as normal.
