More wrecks on wet city streets

Goldsboro police investigated 15 traffic collisions Monday on rain-slickened streets, but officers reported that none resulted from the weather. Four wrecks involved personal injury or high property damages. They included:

*Damages were estimated at $7,250 in a four-vehicle collision at 3:20 p.m. Monday on East New Hope Road near Lewis Drive, police said. One driver, Daniel Mantilla, 17, of Ryan Boulevard, was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end collision. The other drivers were identified as Adam Joseph Bouchard, 18, of Bayleaf Drive; Paige Lorene Nelson, 16, of East Pine Street, and Jessica Rae Summerlin, 16, of West Hill Street.

*Two people were injured and damages were estimated at $9,000 in a three-vehicle crash at 2:40 p.m. Monday at North William Street and Patetown Road, police said. One driver, Edward Charles Williams, 39, of Herman Street, and his passenger, Kevonta King, 23, of Courtyard Circle, were treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said. A northbound driver, Lisa Faye Reedy, 31, of Foxwood Place, was charged with a yield violation. The report said. Ms. Reedy was making a left turn onto Patetown Road and her sport utility vehicle had collided with Williams' southbound car. The impact pushed Williams' car into a stopped eastbound auto that was driven by Johnnie B. Musgrave, 65, of Saulston Road.

*A Goldsboro motorist was injured in a two-vehicle wreck at 6:40 p.m. Monday at West Holly and North George streets, police said. Juwanna L. Brown, 23, of West Oak Street was released after emergency-room treatment. She also was charged with a safe-movement violation at a stop sign and no liability insurance. The report said Ms. Brown's eastbound car had collided with a southbound pickup truck that was driven by Kimberly Sue Beck-Pelt, 36, of Chafin Road. Damages were set at $3,000.

*A northbound driver was injured in a two-car crash at 8:38 a.m. Monday at Wayne Memorial Drive and the entrance to Wayne Community College, police said. Edsel Lofton, 47, of Hare Road was released after emergency-room treatment. The report said a driver leaving the college, Heather Nicole Waters, 19, of Smithfield, was charged with a safe-movement violation after the crash. Damages were put at $4,500.

In other recent collisions:

*Both cars were demolished in a crash at 10 a.m. Saturday at N.C. 55 and N.C. 111, the Highway Patrol said. A southbound driver, Masao Kitsuya, 45, of Cashwell Drive, was charged with a yield violation at a stop sign. The report said Kitsuya's car had collided with an eastbound auto that was driven by Luis Alberto Cruz-Figueroa, 21, of Atkinson. The cars were valued at $11,500. Neither driver was hurt.

*Damages were estimated at $11,000 in a two-vehicle wreck at 10:56 a.m. Saturday on Big Daddy's Road, east of N.C. 111, the Highway Patrol said. An eastbound driver, Cynthia B. Worrell, 50, of Beverly Drive, was charged with a safe-movement violation. The report said Ms. Worrell was making a left turn and her minivan had collided with an eastbound pickup truck that was driven by Billy Everette Pate, 61, of Big Daddy's Road, Pikeville.

*A driver was injured in a two-vehicle collision at 11:28 p.m. Friday on U.S. 117 near Booker Street, the Highway Patrol said. Jean D. Aycock, 61, of True Vine Road, Pikeville, was released after emergency-room treatment. A southbound driver, Walter Lee Bunch, 54, of Branch Street, Fremont, was charged with improper equipment. The report said a utility trailer that Bunch was towing had come loose, crossed the center line and struck Ms. Aycock's oncoming northbound car. Damages were set at $3,300.

*A truck overturned during a right turn from N.C. 581 to Arrington Bridge Road, resulting in about $5,000 in damages at 8:57 a.m. Friday, the Highway Patrol said. The driver, Antonio Fitzgerald Cox, 40, of Capps Bridge Road, Princeton, was charged with exceeding a safe speed.

*A car was destroyed in a wreck at 3:46 p.m. Friday on Hood Swamp Road near North Beston Road, the Highway Patrol said. The driver, Marco Antonio Torres, 17, of Hood Swamp Road, was charged with driving left of center. The report said the car that Torres was driving had crossed the center line, the driver overcorrected the steering and the car skidded sideways off the right side and overturned into a driveway. The car was valued at $6,000.

*A driver was injured in a three-vehicle crash at 1 p.m. Thursday at U.S. 117 and Old Grantham Road, the Highway Patrol said. Samara Faye Holmes, 32, of Dunwoody Drive, Pikeville, was released after emergency-room treatment. Another driver, Delbert Harold Benson, 26, of Richlands, was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end crash. The report said Ms. Holmes had stopped in the left, southbound lane, and another motorist, Robert Wade Koen, 37, of Antioch Road, had slowed in the right turn lane. Both vehicles were struck.

*A motorcyclist from Mount Olive was injured in a wreck at 4:57 p.m. Thursday on Indian Springs Road, north of N.C. 55, the Highway Patrol said. Jack Darol Knox, 44, of Pineland Avenue was released after emergency-room treatment. He was charged with exceeding a safe speed. The report said the eastbound bike had run off the right side, struck a ditch and started to roll over. Damage was put at $6,000 to the motorcycle.
