Continuing a tradition of almost 30 years, Christmas tours by Candlelight are taking place at Charles B. Aycock Birthplace.

About 300 people attended Tuesday night. The tours will continue Thursday evening from 6:30 to 9.

The candle-lit path will take visitors to the schoolhouse, where they can participate in a shadow puppet play. Costumed interpreters will tell visitors about Christmas in 1870. Visitors will see period decorations in the home. In the kitchen, open-hearth cooking takes place, and visitors can enjoy hot apple cider.

Jacksonville's Primitive Baptist Singers perform gospel songs and Christmas carols in the visitor's center at 6:45, 7:30 and 8:15.

Tour admission is free, with a suggested donation of $5 per car. The Charles B. Aycock Advisory Committee will host the program. The birthplace is located nine miles north of Goldsboro, off of Gov. Aycock Road. For more information, call 242-5581.
