Board members sworn in

PRINCETON -- New town Commissioner Billy Sutton and incumbent David Starling were sworn in Monday night for four-year terms on the Princeton town board. Mayor Don Rains also was sworn in for a third two-year term.
Johnston County Clerk of Court Will Crocker did the honors before family members during the board monthly meeting in the Community Building.
Sutton, a state Transportation Department employee who has been on disability, replaced two-term incumbent Larry Withrow. Withrow finished third in the November election. Starling is beginning his fourth term on the four-man board.
Rains took time to thank Withrow for his leadership.
"The last four years, the town board worked well together, partly because of the leadership," Rains said. "...We had great years, and a lot of progress was made. I look forward to working with the new board and moving forward on new projects."
Rains did not have opposition for re-election. For the three previous elections, he opposed former mayor William Earl Ormond. Rains lost the first election but won the last two.
Incumbent Commissioner Eddie Haddock was elected again as mayor pro tem.
Rains also made these commissioner assignments: Haddock, streets; Starling, general services, park and special projects; Walter A. Martin Jr., police, and Sutton, water and sewer.
Rains also presented Sutton's wife, Terri, a plaque of appreciation for directing the town's Veterans Day parade and celebration.
