Wayne Memorial Hospital has received three gold and three silver awards for excellence in marketing and communications.

The "Wallie Awards" were presented during the Carolinas Healthcare Public Relations and Marketing Society annual conference in Asheville last month. The number of entries in 2005 more than doubled from the previous year, with almost 450 in 27 categories from North and South Carolina hospitals.

The hospital won a gold award for its "Faces of Wayne" TV ad campaign, which featured employees who gave unscripted testimonials about their pride in working at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

"It was the first time we had ever launched a TV campaign like that so we were pleasantly surprised to receive a gold award in such a competitive category," said Amy Cain, director of public relations. The award is also a credit to the hospital's advertising agency, Atlas Communications of Aiken, SC, which directed and produced the commercials, she said.

The other gold awards were for the hospital's new internal newsletter, In Touch, and a brochure given to cardiac patients and others who request it.

The silver awards were given to the hospital for PostScript, a community newsletter distributed quarterly through the News-Argus, and two other brochures, one for stroke patients and one for physician recruitment.
