Larceny

Sidney Vernon Champion, 30, Fields Drive, Pikeville, was arrested on Friday by investigators Mike Moore and Mike Horstmann from the Goldsboro Police Department and charged with larceny by employee. He is accused of taking money from his former employer. Champion was placed in Wayne County Jail under a $5,000 bond.

Collisions

Several collisions occurred on Wayne County roadways, with the following reported:

*Friday at 8 a.m. on U.S. 70 East, Joanne C. Summerlin, 57, LaGrange, reportedly slowed in heavy traffic and was struck by another vehicle driven by Ernest Ray Perry, 53, Meadow Crest Drive. Perry was charged with a safe movement violation. His vehicle received $6,000 worth of damage and Ms. Summerlin's vehicle received $4,000 in damage.

*At 3:51 p.m. Friday on Ash Street, Eleanor Jarmon Royal, 74, Graham Street, reportedly failed to see another vehicle driven by David Earl Stafford, 62, Darby Road, and the two collided. She was charged with a safe movement violation. Each of the vehicles sustained an estimated $3,000 worth of damage.

*On Berkeley Blvd. near Maplewood Friday afternoon at 5:06 p.m., Deborah K. Bryan, 37, Laurel Street, was charged with a safe movement violation after failing to see another vehicle in time to avoid a collision. She struck a car driven by Gasty Baker Ruffin, 58, Mercer Road, Walstonburg. Both cars were towed from the scene. Ruffin's reportedly had $8,000 worth of damage and Ms. Bryant's received $4,000 worth of damage.

Investigations

Wayne County sheriff's deputies are investigating these reports:

*A Belfast Academy teacher was reportedly assaulted by a 17-year-old student at the school on Thursday around noon. Maurice Nicholson, 40, Remount Road, reported the youth wrapped his arms around Nicholson's waist in a bear hold.

*Rommie Jones Jr., 49, Odom Mill Road, Mount Olive, told police a 31-year-old male attempted to sell drugs at Jones' residence Wednesday night, then became angry when Jones refused the offer. The subject reportedly became angry, struck Jones in the jaw and stole $10 from Jones' hand.

Goldsboro police are investigating these reports:

*Betty Holloway, 75, Seven Springs, told police her pocketbook was taken from a shopping cart while she shopped at Wal-Mart on Friday afternoon. In addition to personal papers and credit cards, the purse also contained $120 in cash.
