8 people injured
in county wrecks
Eight people were injured and damages were estimated at $56,700 in 10 recent traffic collisions in Wayne County, the Highway Patrol reported.
*A driver was injured and the car that he was driving was destroyed in a wreck at 5:45 p.m. Saturday on St. John Church Road near Dollard Town Road, the Highway Patrol said. Robert Cory Smith, 16, of New Street, Seven Springs, was treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokesman said. Smith was charged with driving left of center. The car was valued at $6,500.
*A driver was injured and the car that he was driving was demolished in a wreck at 5:30 p.m. Friday on O'Berry Road near Grantham School Road, the Highway Patrol said. Ron Tavaris Coley, 21, of Durham Lake Road, Dudley, left Wayne Memorial Hospital against medical advice, a spokesman said. The car was valued at $5,000.
*An eastbound driver from Selma was injured and damages were estimated at $5,500 in a two-car collision at 12:12 p.m. Thursday on U.S. 70 near N.C. 581, the Highway Patrol said. Betty Winn Rogers, 48, was released after emergency-room treatment. The other motorist, Janet A. Martin, 58, of East End, was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end collision.
*Damage was estimated at $7,000 in a one-car crash at 6:46 p.m. Thursday on N.C. 55 near Dobbersville Road, the Highway Patrol said. The driver, David J. Travarez, 27, of Van Dyke Lane, Dudley, was charged with driving while impaired.
*Damages were set at $8,500 in a two-vehicle collision at 2:15 p.m. Thursday on U.S. 13 near Brantwood Drive, the Highway Patrol said. Miranda Hope Nixon, 25, of Indian Springs Road, Seven Springs, was charged with a safe-movement violation. The report said Ms. Nixon was making a three-point U-turn and her car collided with a southbound pickup truck that was driven by Mark Patrick Timms, 44, of Fort Run Road, Snow Hill.
*Both drivers were injured in a crash at 9:25 a.m. Wednesday at U.S. 117 Alternate and Sleepy Creek Road, the Highway Patrol said. Brenda Lee Harper, 40, of Oak Circle Road and Janet Christiana Eason, 28, of Armstrong Drive were released after emergency-room treatment. Ms. Harper, who was going east, was charged with a stoplight violation. Ms. Eason was traveling south. Damages were put at $3,700.
*A car was demolished in a wreck at 9:16 p.m. Nov. 22 on N.C. 581 near Buck Swamp Road, the Highway Patrol said. The driver, George Tennant, 29, of Nor Am Road, Pikeville, was charged with driving while impaired and a lane-control violation. He said he had swerved to miss a dog in the road. The report said the car had run off the right side, struck a ditch and overturned three times. The car was valued at $10,000.
*A driver was injured and his car was destroyed in a wreck at 9:23 p.m. Nov. 22 on Indian Springs Road near Stanley Chapel Church Road, the Highway Patrol said. Michael Emmett W. Ballree, 20, of Crest Drive, Mount Olive, was treated, admitted and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital. He was charged with exceeding a safe speed after his car had run off the right side to avoid another vehicle and struck a tree. The car was valued at $6,000.
*A southbound Goldsboro driver was injured and damage was estimated at $10,000 in a one-vehicle crash at 10:02 a.m. Nov. 21 on Wayne Memorial Drive near Hare Road, the Highway Patrol said. Christopher John Sanders, 22, of Timberline Oak Drive was released after emergency-room treatment. He was charged with exceeding a safe speed.
*A motorcyclist was injured in a wreck at 3:40 p.m. Nov. 19 on Buck Swamp Road near Vail Road, the Highway Patrol said. Susan Gay Bergman, 47, of Capps Bridge Road, Pikeville, was released after emergency-room treatment. No charges were filed. The report said the motorcycle had run off the right side in a curve, struck a ditch and overturned.
Burning charge
A Goldsboro man was arrested before dawn today by Goldsboro police and charged with setting fire to his father's storage building behind their home at 702 Holland Drive.
Alan Linwood Sauls, 33, was charged with felony burning of an unoccupied building. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $7,500 secured bond.
The father, Linwood Albert Sauls, told police that he saw fire coming from the building at about 7 p.m., then ran outside and saw his son in the building. The younger Sauls fled but was arrested about six hours later.
The Fire Department put out the fire that had caused about $105 in damages.
Chase
A Goldsboro man was arrested Monday night by Goldsboro police after a high-speed chase.
Paul Anthony Stover Jr., 24, of Theo Drive was charged with felony fleeing to elude arrest, failure to heed blue lights or a siren, driving while his license was revoked, reckless driving, fictitious registration, no liability insurance, possession of marijuana and three stop-sign violations.
Stover, who was arrested at East End and Ivey streets, was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $7,000 secured bond.
Man robbed
A 33-year-old Goldsboro man was assaulted and robbed Monday night by several people at Elm and Charles streets, according to a Goldsboro police report.
David Hill reported that he was kicked, stomped and robbed of his wallet that had $60 and personal papers. One suspect was described as black, 5-feet-10 and 175 pounds with a thin build, and he wore a black hat, brown jacket and black pants.
Cell phone theft
The theft of a cell phone on Aug. 30 from a vehicle near Dudley led to the arrest Monday of a 28-year-old man on two felony charges.
Larry Nolan Smith of Casey Mill Road, Dudley, was charged with breaking and entering of a vehicle and larceny. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $10,000 secured bond.
Smith was accused of stealing the phone from a vehicle on Hereford Drive and making several calls, Detective Sgt. Rick Farfour said. Smith was arrested in Greenville and returned to Goldsboro.
Car break-in
A 29-year-old man was arrested Monday by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office and charged with three felony offenses in connection with a car break-in.
Timothy Jeryl Fair of Old Grantham Road was accused of breaking into a car Oct. 21 and stealing a stereo, speakers and tools, Detective Sgt. Rick Farfour said. Some property has been recovered. Fair was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $10,000 secured bond.
Drug charges
A Wayne County teenager was arrested Monday by Goldsboro police and charged with felony and misdemeanor drug violations. Melvin Brantley, 17, of Vail Road, Pikeville, was charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver methamphetamine, misdemeanor possession of marijuana and failure to carry an operator's license. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $10,000 secured bond.
Investigations
Wayne County sheriff's deputies are investigating these reports:
*A 12-gauge shotgun and $8 were stolen Monday after two windows were damaged at a home in the 500 block of Old Kenly Road, sheriff's deputies said. The resident, Lynn Marvin Broome, put a $250 value on the shotgun. Damages were set at $120.
*A car stereo with a compact disc player was stolen between Nov. 12 and Monday from a disabled car on U.S. 117 South near Mount Olive, deputies said. The thief had smashed a window to get inside and spray-painted the car. The owner, Manuel Gamboa Toledano of Mount Olive, put a $200 value on the unit and estimated damages at $900.
*An estimated $2,500 in damages was inflicted Monday to walls and carpets at a rental mobile home in the 100 block of Colonel Warrick Road near Dudley, deputies said. The home is owned by James Russell Alexander of Goldsboro.
Thefts
Goldsboro police are investigating these reports:
*A television, a combination television, cassette player and radio, and a calculator were stolen between Monday and dawn today from Safe and Sound Transport at 410 Vann St., police said. The thief had damaged two windows and a door. The stolen property was worth $230. No damage estimate was listed.
*A total of $1,272, 16 red bags and a padlock were stolen Monday from a Coca Cola truck at the Wayne County Schools Administration Building at 2001 Royall Ave., police said. The driver, David Goodman of Faison, reported that the doors had been damaged. No damage estimate was listed.
Missing
Two people have been reported missing by relatives to Goldsboro police.
*Jonathan O'Neil, 15, of 901-A S. Audubon Ave. was described as black, 5-feet-9 and 140 pounds with black hair, brown eyes and a medium complexion. When he was seen last at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, he was wearing a white shirt, blue jeans, white shoes and a black coat.
*Dartanion Lerey McAdoo, 28, of 304 Whitfield Drive was described as black, 5-feet-8 and 200 pounds with black hair, brown eyes and a medium complexion. When he was seen last at 1 a.m. Monday, he was wearing a tan shirt, blue jeans, brown shoes and a gray coat.
