Man charged

Two men argued over money owed, and one man grabbed a $4,166.10 check from the other and fled but was arrested later, according to a Goldsboro police report.

John Wesley Williams of Belfast Road told officers that he was leaving the BB&T bank office at 207 E. Ash St. at about 3 p.m. Wednesday with the other man.

As they were talking, Williams said the other man said: "You better give me your money," then snatched the check and fled.

A warrant was secured, and Wayne County Sheriff's Deputy Lee Davis arrested the suspect. Michael Juran Powell, 50, of Mill Dam Road was charged with felony larceny from the person and placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $5,000 secured bond, police said.

The check was recovered and returned to Williams.
