Principals shifted at 7 schools in county

Three principals will be leaving the Wayne County Public Schools before the beginning of the second semester, officials announced.
Norwayne Middle School principal Barbara Wilkins and Eastern Wayne Middle School principal Keith Wright will both retire in December. Charles B. Aycock High School principal Randy Bledsoe has accepted a position with Greene County Schools.
Mario Re will be Norwayne's new principal. In 1998, Re started his career in education as a middle school teacher in Lenoir County. There he taught math and science and coached football and girls' basketball.
He joined the Wayne County school system in 2003, becoming assistant principal at Norwayne. He holds a bachelor's degree in middle grades education and a master's degree in school administration, both from East Carolina University.
Catherine Eubanks, currently principal at Belfast Academy, will take over as principal at Eastern Wayne Middle. Her background includes being a middle school teacher in Franklin County when she began teaching in 1994. She taught language arts, writing and social studies and coached cheerleading. In 2002, she joined the Wayne County school system as assistant principal at Eastern Wayne Middle. She was promoted to the role of principal in 2004, assigned to Mount Olive Middle School.
She became principal at Belfast in 2005. Mrs. Eubanks earned her bachelor's degree in middle grades education from East Carolina University and a master's degree in school administration at N.C. State University.
The new principal at Aycock will be veteran educator Eddie Radford. Currently assistant principal at Goldsboro High School, Radford has spent most of his educational career in the local school system, including 30 years at Southern Wayne High School.
He has taught biology, health, physical education and driver's education. In 1994, he moved into the administrative role as principal at the school. One year later, he was named principal.
Radford had retired from the school system in 2003, then spent two years as headmaster of Wayne Country Day School. He became assistant principal at Goldsboro High in the fall.
His undergraduate degrees are in health and physical education, with a concentration in psychology. He earned a master's degree in administration from Campbell University.
Theresa Cox, assistant principal at Dillard Middle School since 2004, will become principal at Belfast Academy. She obtained a bachelor's degree in English from UNC-Greensboro and a master's degree in administration from Fayetteville State University.
She began her career in 1994, teaching language arts and social studies at a middle school in Pitt County. She joined the local school system in 1997 as a teacher at Spring Creek High School and became assistant principal at Northwest Elementary School in 2001.
Efforts are being made to facilitate the mid-year shifts in administration, Superintendent Dr. Steven Taylor said.
"The principals have already met with their new school," he said. "In the coming weeks, the principals will also acclimate themselves with the daily workings of their school so they can better meet the needs of students and staff."
