Woman clerk
at hotel robbed
A woman motel clerk was robbed Monday night by two black men of an undetermined amount of money, according to a Goldsboro police report.
The clerk told police that the suspects, one armed with a handgun, entered the Jameson Inn at 1408 S. Harding Drive at 6:41 p.m. and demanded money. They grabbed the cash and fled north in a black car on Harding Drive, the report said.
One robber was described as being 23 years old, 5 feet 11 inches tall and 185 pounds, and he wore a black jacket and jeans. The other suspect was described as being 19, 5 feet 5 inches tall and 160 pounds, and he wore a black jacket and jeans.
Anyone with information on the robbery was asked to call Goldsboro-Wayne Crime Stoppers at 735-2255 or Goldsboro police at 705-6572. Callers may be anonymous and might be eligible for a cash reward.
10 people injured
in county collisions
Ten people were injured and damages were estimated at $104,000 in 16 recent traffic collisions in Wayne County, officers reported.
*A driver was injured and his car was demolished in a wreck at 7:40 p.m. Monday on U.S. 117 South near South George Street, Goldsboro police said. Ronnie Sam Chisolm Jr., 29, of Dennis Drive, Princeton, left Wayne Memorial Hospital against medical advice, a spokeswoman said. Chisolm told police that he was passing a truck and a gold car struck his back bumper. The report said Chisolm's car ran off the left side, hit a highway sign, careened off the right side, struck a ditch and overturned three times. Police found no evidence of gold paint on Chisolm's auto. Chisolm was charged with suspicion of driving while impaired and exceeding a safe speed. His car was valued at $6,000.
*A tire came off a car at 10:38 a.m. Monday on Old Mount Olive Road near Lakewood Avenue, the car ran off the left side and struck a ditch and the driver was injured, the Highway Patrol said. Murle Edward Hinton Jr., 20, of Wisteria Road was treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital. No charges were filed. Damage was put at $800.
*A car was demolished in a wreck at 3:57 a.m. Sunday on Hinnant Road near Vail Road, the Highway Patrol said. The driver lost control of the car in a curve, crossed the center line, then came back off the right side and landed in a ditch, the report said. The driver, Jeremy Xylon Howell, 18, of Grand Street, Pikeville, was charged with driving while impaired. The car was valued at $8,000.
*An eastbound car struck a deer at 6:56 a.m. Sunday on N.C. 55 near N.C. 111 and sustained about $5,000 in damages, the Highway Patrol said. The driver, Robert Ashford Hassell, 31, of Kinston, was neither injured nor charged.
*Both drivers were injured and damages were estimated at $11,000 in a two-vehicle collision at 2:50 p.m. Saturday on N.C. 55 near Grantham School Road, the Highway Patrol said. Della W. Swinson, 54, of East Station Street, Mount Olive, and Shirley L. Raynor, 51, of William R. King Road, Newton Grove, were released after emergency-room treatment. The report said Ms. Raynor, who was going west, started to make a left turn into a driveway and her car collided with the oncoming, eastbound sport utility vehicle that Ms. Swinson was driving. Ms. Raynor was charged with a safe-movement violation.
*Damages were estimated at $8,500 in a two-vehicle collision at 7:49 p.m. Saturday at New Hope and Mark Edwards roads, the Highway Patrol said. One driver, Marvin Estuardo Cardona, 25, of Covey Drive, LaGrange, was charged with driving left of center. The report said Cardona was making a left turn to Mark Edwards Road and the company van that he was driving collided with a stopped southbound car. The other motorist was identified as Rashika Sonette Hargrove, 22, of Parkstown Road, LaGrange.
*A van overturned off Old Mount Olive Road near Northeast Church Road at about 12:07 p.m. Saturday, and the driver fled, the Highway Patrol said. The van went across the center line, came back across the road and ran off the right side into a ditch, the report said. The van, valued at $8,000, was demolished and registered to Balvina Roberto Gonzalez of Latino Drive, Seven Springs.
*Both drivers were charged after a rear-end crash that caused about $6,000 in damages at 7 p.m. Friday at N.C. 111 and Spring Bank Road, the Highway Patrol said. A northbound driver, Rafael Avila Torres, 20, of Hamlet Circle, Seven Springs was charged with failure to reduce speed. Jorge Avila, 19, of Antler Creek Drive was charged with no operator's license.
*An 8-year-old girl was struck by a car at 7:40 a.m. Friday in the Spring Creek High School parking lot, the Highway Patrol said. Cassidy Goff of Lake George Drive, Mount Olive, was released after emergency-room treatment. The driver, Sharon W. Patterson, 47, of Azalea Drive, was not charged. The car was not damaged.
*Three people were injured and damages were estimated at $15,000 in a two-vehicle crash at 11:05 a.m. Friday at Pinkney and Old Kenly roads, the Highway Patrol said. One driver, Richard Erle Lewis, 69, and his passenger, Nan Lewis, 63, both of Rains Crossroads Road, Princeton, and a passenger in the other vehicle, Jo Ann Watkins, 56, of U.S. 70 West, were released after emergency-room treatment. Ms. Watkins' northbound driver, Alvin Ashton Watkins, 58, of U.S. 70 West, was charged with a stop-sign violation. Lewis was traveling east.
*Damages were set at $5,700 in a two-vehicle collision at 6:18 p.m. Thursday at U.S. 70 and Kitty Lane, the Highway Patrol said. A northbound driver, Iris Esperanza Mendoza-Madrid, 52, of Harrells, was charged with a yield violation. The report said her sport utility vehicle had collided with a westbound pickup truck that was driven by William Paul Smith, 27, of N.C. 581 South.
*Damages were put at $5,000 in a two-vehicle crash at 1:02 p.m. Wednesday at Norwayne School and Ballance roads, the Highway Patrol said. An eastbound motorist, Luby Shearod, 52, of East Ward Street, Fremont, was charged with a safe-movement violation and no liability insurance. Shearod's car collided with a southbound car that was driving Peggy W. Collier, 38, of Joe Morris Road, Kenly.
*A driver was charged with driving left of center at 4:06 p.m. Nov. 15 after the car ran off the left side and struck a ditch and several trees, the Highway Patrol said. Luz Aurora Martinez, 19, of Durham Lake Road, Dudley, was not injured. But the car sustained about $8,000 in damages.
*A driver was injured in a two-vehicle wreck at 7:26 p.m. Nov. 15 on Camp Jubilee Road near Zion Church Road, the Highway Patrol said. Julia Gonzalez Hernandez, 27, of Sandy Lane, Mount Olive, was released after emergency-room treatment. The report said she was leaving a driveway and the pickup truck that she was driving had collided with a northbound car that was driven by Juan Angel Proa, 21, of Shady Lane, Mount Olive. Damages were set at $4,000.
*A passenger from Mount Olive was injured and damages were estimated at $9,000 in a two-car crash at 5:50 p.m. Nov. 15 at U.S. 117 and the entrance to Neuse River Shopping Center, the Highway Patrol said. Krystal McCullen, 16, of Winn Street was released after emergency-room treatment. Her driver, Victor Nelson Darden, 18, of Durham Lake Road, Dudley, was charged with a yield violation. The report said Darden had started a left turn and the car that he was driver had collided with a northbound auto. The other driver was listed as Courtney Heather McDaniels, 24, of East Main Street, Mount Olive.
*A car ran off the right side of U.S. 70 at 3:19 p.m. Nov. 7 and slammed into a parked golf cart at Sasser Golf Cars Inc. at 2530 U.S. 70 West, causing about $12,000 in damages, the Highway Patrol said. The driver, Victor Perez, 22, of Root Rouse Road, Seven Springs, was charged with failure to maintain lane control.
$8,100 in property
stolen from store
About $8,178 worth of property -- including cigarettes, pocket knives and phones cards -- was stolen between Sunday night and Monday from the Take-a-Break convenience store at 3831 U.S. 70 West, the Wayne County Sheriff's Office reported.
Seventy-six cartons and 200 packs of cigarettes, 23 packs of and 25 individual cigars, four containers of smokeless tobacco, 60 pocket knives, 100 phone cards, 120 candy bars and prescription medicine were stolen, the report said.
The thief smashed a door and a window to get inside and then a desk drawer. Damages totaled about $575.
Near the same location, two tool boxes on trucks also were broken into between Sunday and Monday on U.S. 70 West, according to reports.
Hand tools, a tool bag and two car speakers were stolen from a G and D Transport truck from Smithfield at 2803 U.S. 70 West. The property, valued at more than $215, was owned by Wesley Conway Brewer Jr.
Thieves inflicted an estimated $400 in damages to a tool box on a truck at Ed's Automotive Repair at 3451 U.S. 70 West, but nothing was reported stolen. The truck is owned by Johnny Motes of Princeton.
Meanwhile, the phone line was cut, the electric box was damaged and a door was pried open between Monday night and dawn today at the Handy Mart convenience store at 6024 U.S. 70 East, sheriff's deputies said. Nothing was reported stolen. Damages were set at $450.
Man wanted
Goldsboro and LaGrange police are seeking information on the location of 26-year-old Fremandeus Connell Williams, who is wanted on a charged of armed robbery of a bank in LaGrange and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Williams was described as 6 feet 3 inches tall and 185 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. He may be in the Devereaux Street area.
Anyone with information on Williams' location was asked to call Goldsboro-Wayne County Crime Stoppers at 735-2255, police Investigator M.K. Horstmann at 580-4213 or State Bureau of Investigation Special Agent Doug Rambaud at 1-252-353-3064. Callers may remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward.
The N.C. Bankers Association also is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and indictment of Williams. Confidential information may be called to 1-800-209-2293.
Drug charges
Two men were arrested Monday by Goldsboro police and charged with felony drug offenses.
Victor Antonio Benitez, 20, of Albertson was charged by the Selective Enforcement Unit with possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine and two misdemeanors, assault on a law-enforcement officer and resisting arrest.
Police arrived at Berkeley Mall after a mall employee said a man was trying to sell cocaine to mall customers. During the arrest, Benitez shoved and struck Sgt. K.S. Harris but was subdued quickly. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $5,000 secured bond. Seven grams of cocaine were seized.
Jasper Roach, 20, of Courtyard Circle was charged by police with possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana. He was jailed in lieu of a $2,500 secured bond. Officers had seized 7.5 grams of marijuana in the 500 block of Hickory Street.
Investigations
Wayne County sheriff's deputies are investigating these reports:
*A gold nugget watch and a gold nugget bracelet were stolen Monday after a door and a wall were damaged at a home in the 100 block of Bear Trap Drive, sheriff's deputies said. The stolen property was valued at $800. Damage was set at $500 at Delores T. Darden's home.
*Video-game equipment and a six-string guitar were stolen Monday from a home in the 100 block of Deerfield Lane, deputies said. The resident, Terry R. Hollingsworth, put a $755 value on the property. The thief also caused about $50 in damages to a video cassette recorder during the break-in.
Thefts
Goldsboro police are investigating these reports:
*A computer and 15 keys were stolen between Thursday and Monday after two windows and three lockers were damaged at the CSX Transportation office at 100 Sherman Street, police said. The stolen property was valued at $3,020. Damages were set at $350.
*A refrigerator, a stove, a washer and a dryer were stolen between July 20 and Monday from a rental home in the 900 block of East Walnut Street, police said. The property, valued at $1,801, was owned by O.T. Benson of Livingston, Texas.
*A laptop computer was stolen Monday from Goldsboro Skin Center at 2613 Hospital Road, police said. The computer was valued at $3,200.
