SUV driver hears charges, vehicle owner identified

A driver charged with failing to stop at a school crosswalk and hitting two Greenwood Middle School students made a first appearance in Wayne County District Court today.
Luis Delgado Jesus, 23, stood before Judge Rose Williams clad in an orange jumpsuit, his wrists and ankles cuffed. He showed no emotion as his rights and the charges were explained to him.

Luis Jesus enters Wayne County District Court this morning to make a first appearance. His next court date will be January 23.
Jesus faces charges that include reckless driving and driving while his license was revoked. He had been held over the weekend in the Wayne County Jail under $1,500 bond.
Jesus, who required an interpreter, was asked by Williams if he understood the charges.
Williams set a court date of Jan. 23. Jesus had his own lawyer, but the attorney was not immediately identified.
Police said Jesus was not the owner of the 1995 Ford Explorer involved in Friday morning's accident. It is registered to Fernandez Torrez of Bennett's Bridge Road in Calypso, investigators said.
Torrez's address is the same as Jesus's.
Police Officer Steve Powers and Sgt. Grayham Keesler wrote in their report that Jesus, who was traveling east, did not stop at a red traffic light at a school crosswalk on East Ash Street.
