Telethon nets $30,067 for Crime Stoppers

The 20th annual Goldsboro-Wayne County Crime Stoppers raised $30,067 last weekend in pledges and donations to help law-enforcement agencies investigate serious crimes.
"It went very well," said Goldsboro police Sgt. Dot Ardes, the Crime Stoppers law-enforcement coordinator. "...Considering Hurricane Katrina, we did better than expected. I'm happy with it."
The annual Crimey Award, given to the most requested song, was won by the Wayne Montessori School for its performance of "This is Your Land."
The Children's House Montessori School finished second with "Our House." The third-place finisher was In Loving Memory of Summer Worrell with "Who You'd Be Today."
Goldsboro police officers and Wayne County sheriff's deputies volunteered their time to man telephones during the two-day event.
The money raised from the telethon will be used to pay cash rewards to anonymous callers whose information leads to arrests in felony cases.
