Mount Olive historic home tour Thursday

MOUNT OLIVE -- A tour of historical homes has been added to the third Holiday Open House in downtown Mount Olive.
The open house will begin Thursday with a fashion show at noon at the Center Street Bistro downtown. The fashion show is hosted by Patsy Joyner of Ruffles and Bows.
Music for the fashion show will be provided by Kim Holmes, a former member of Mount Olive College's Fabulous Four vocal group. Several dance schools will have performers in front of Sir Robert's Antiques and Estate Sales on Center Street.
Participating businesses will stay open until 8 p.m., with refreshkments, discounts on merchandise and free gifts. And outside the shops, several church choirs and choruses will sing Christmas carols.
Another addition to the event this year will be the placing of abouit 600 luminaries that will lead to the doors of the participating businesses.
Town officials will switch on the town's Christmas lights at sundown, between 5:30 and 6 p.m.
Santa Claus will make an appearance at 6 p.m., and will set up shop in front of the chamber office.
The tours of historical homes will begin at 6 p.m. and continue until 8 p.m.
Proceeds from tickets sales to the tour will be used to benefit the Mount Olive Historical Society, which is holding the tours to raise money.
Homes on the tour include the Southerland-Burnette home at the corner of Chestnut and James streets, the Perry-Cherry home at 308 Main St. and the Reginald Hines home at 308 N. Center. Tickets are $7 each and are available at the chamber office on Center Street as well as at the doors of the homes Thursday evening.
The Southerland-Burnette home was built in 1874 and is owned by Charles and Linda Turner. The Perry-Cherry home was built in 1904 and is owned by Neil and April Dennis. The Reginald-Hines home was built in 1948 and is owned by Ray and Catherine McDonald.
