Roughly 1,000 Goldsboro residents lost their power early this morning when a Progress Energy substation experienced equipment failure, officials said.

Progress Energy spokeswoman Kristy Fair said the outage occurred at 6:53 a.m.

Ms. Fair added that crews were dispatched to the area and as of 9 a.m., 400 people were still without power. While she could not identify the specific area affected, calls came in from many living near Cashwell Drive, she said.

Some traffic lights on Berkeley Boulevard were still not working properly this morning, causing minor delays for drivers exiting U.S. 70.
