Three people were elected to seats on the village board Tuesday in Walnut Creek.

Kathy Daniels and Darrell Horne both won four-year terms on the council, and Tom Shaw won the race for an unexpired term that will keep him on the board through 2007.

Daniels, who received 170 votes, or 43 percent, said she was somewhat surprised by the victory but wanted to thank her supporters.

"I would just like to thank everybody for their vote and support," she said. "I will do the very best I can to serve them."

Horne received 142 votes, or 36 percent of the vote. He could not be reached for comment. Greg Ricker finished third in the balloting for the seat.

Shaw captured 223 votes -- 56 percent of those cast -- to defeat Willis Underwood. He said he was grateful for the victory and proud of his neighbors for coming out and voting.

"I'd really like to thank all the people in Walnut Creek who came out and voted and for giving me a chance to serve," he said. "I look forward to the next two years."

Shaw added that while in office, he would work hard on long-range planning for Walnut Creek.

"The things were working on right now are the planning of the village future and expansion," he said.
