Public schools also will be closed for the holiday, as well as state offices and the Postal Service.

Gateway bus service will run from 9:45 a.m. to 6:45 p.m. on Friday and van services will operate on its normal schedule. Officials have requested that all passengers in need of service Friday call and schedule transportation on Thursday by 2:30 p.m.

Trash pick-up in the city also will be affected. All sanitation collections services in the city scheduled for Friday will be collected on Wednesday.

Waste Industries officials said their trash pick-up schedule would not be affected by the holiday.

The Wayne County Veterans Day Parade will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in downtown Goldsboro. The parade is sponsored by the Wayne County Veterans and Patriots Coalition. The line-up will be at 10:30 a.m., and the parade will begin at 11 a.m. at the south end of Center Street, make its way down the promenade, around the traffic circle and back.

There is no entry fee for anyone who wants to be part of the parade. To sign up, visit the Wayne County Veteran's Service Office in the Wayne County Administration building at 209 S. William St., or by e-mail to brenda.forsythe@waynegov.com. You may also call George Carberry at 778-9636.
