Museum has new director

Janet Clayton has been named the new director of the Wayne County Museum by the Wayne County Historical Association.
Originally from Long Island, N.Y., Ms. Clayton moved to Goldsboro in 2002, joining her mother and sisters here.
"I think I'm pretty well-suited for here. I have an appreciation for artifacts and history," Ms. Clayton said.
No stranger to looking for clues to the past, Ms. Clayton worked for 20 years as a private investigator.
She has also worked as a property manager.
"Both careers I've had have given me different skills and talents," she said. "I know how to manage, and I know what it takes to run a building."
Ms. Clayton had been working at the museum on an interim basis for two weeks.
During her time in Goldsboro, Ms. Clayton has donated her services to Habitat for Humanity, the Day Center, the county Economic Development Commission and the county public schools.
Wayne County Historical Association President Louis Marriner said Ms. Clayton is perfect for the job.
"She just seemed to fit the bill. She's exactly what we wanted," Marriner said.
Marriner said Ms. Clayton will help lead the museum in a new direction, which will involve a membership drive and re-arranging the museum early next year.
"She's the best for what we want right now," Marriner said. "I was very impressed with her demeanor and the way she carried herself. It just seemed right for us."
Ms. Clayton is ready for the challenge.
"My parents taught me to have a very good work ethic," she said. "Whatever it takes to do in a workday, that's what you do."
