Man robbed
An elderly man was assaulted and robbed Wednesday night of $10 and his wallet while he was on his porch in the 200 block of North Harding Drive, according to a Goldsboro police report.
Oscar E. Howell told police that as he was unlocking his door, a black man came behind him, grabbed his back pockets, took his wallet and fled east.
The suspect was described only as being 6-feet tall and he wore a green jacket and blue pants.
Apartment fire
Unattended cooking was blamed Wednesday night for a kitchen fire that caused about $1,300 in damages to an apartment at 717 Bain St., Goldsboro Fire Department officials said.
No one was injured at the Suronjonetle Howell home. The residents put the fire out that damaged a stove, cabinets, exhaust fan, lights and mini-blinds in the kitchen, Lt. Carlton Parks said.
The Goldsboro Housing Authority building was valued at $70,000, and contents were valued at $25,000. Damage was set at $1,000 to the building and $300 to contents.
Fourteen firefighters answered the 9:28 p.m. call with three engines, a ladder and a command car.
9 hurt in wrecks
Nine people were injured and damages were estimated at $52,200 in nine recent traffic collisions in Wayne County, officers reported.
*Two people were injured in a two-car collision at 10:39 a.m. Wednesday at Wayne Memorial and Corporate drives, Goldsboro police said. A passenger, Classie Brinson, 81, of North William Street, was listed today in stable condition in intensive care at Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said. Her driver, Bertha B. Brown, 61, of Courtyard Circle, was treated and released from the hospital. The other driver, Erike Ponce Torres, 18, of Research Farm Road, was charged with a safe-movement violation at a stop sign. The report said Ms. Torres had pulled from Corporate Drive and the car that she was driving had collided with Ms. Brown's southbound auto. Damages were set at $4,500.
*Damages were estimated at $17,600 in a two-car crash at 8 p.m. Tuesday at U.S. 70 and Beston Road, the Highway Patrol said. A northbound driver, Jessica Brooke Gay, 24, of North Beston Road, LaGrange, was charged with a yield violation at a stop sign. The report said her car had collided with a westbound auto that was driven by Christopher McKinley Bentler, 25, of Colorado Springs, Colo.
*A driver was injured in a three-vehicle wreck at 7:45 a.m. Tuesday on U.S. 117 near Big Daddy's Road, the Highway Patrol said. Roger Milton Walker, 54, of Necees Drive was released after emergency-room treatment. A second driver, John Creech Marcey, 50, of Big Daddy's Road, Pikeville, was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end wreck. The third driver was identified as DeCarlo Tyrelle Smith, 29, of Roxboro. Damages were set at $1,050.
*Two people were injured in a three-vehicle collision at 8:26 p.m. Monday at U.S. 13 and Tommy's Road, the Highway Patrol said. One driver, Johnnie Calvin Smith, 49, and his passenger, Cynthia Smith, 47, both of Free Gospel Road, Snow Hill, were released after emergency-room treatment. Another motorist, Leanne Marie Preciado, 23, of South Harding Drive, was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end collision. The third driver was listed as Benjamin James Dodd, 23, of South Harding Drive. Damages were put at $4,500.
*A driver was injured and damages were estimated at $7,500 in a two-vehicle crash at 8:45 a.m. Monday at N.C. 581 and Old N.C. 111, the Highway Patrol said. Myra T. Markham, 46, of Old Mount Olive Road, Dudley, was released after emergency-room treatment. A northbound driver, Jennifer B. Jarman, 26, of Beulaviille, was charged with a yield violation at a stop sign. The report said Ms. Jarman's sport utility vehicle had collided with Ms. Markham's eastbound pickup truck.
*A driver was injured in a two-car wreck at 8:30 a.m. Monday on U.S. 70 near Martin Road, the Highway Patrol said. Gregory Lee East, 22, of U.S. 70 West was released after emergency-room treatment. The other motorist, Linda B. Tillery, 43, of North James Street, was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end wreck. Damages were set at $4,000.
*Damages were estimated at $5,300 in a two-car collision at 10:26 a.m. Saturday on U.S. 70 near Leslie Road, the Highway Patrol said. A westbound driver, Sophia Leigh Holt, 23, of Selma, was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end collision. The other driver was identified as David Paul Wiggins, 17, of New Bern.
*A driver was injured and her car was demolished in a wreck at 12:21 p.m. Friday on Piney Grove Church Road near Conover Road, the Highway Patrol said. Ruby Jo Southerland, 50, of Billy Price Road, Seven Springs, was released after emergency-room treatment. No charges were filed after she had swerved to the right to avoid a deer in the road and her car struck a sign and a tree. The car was valued at $7,000. Other damage was put at $150.
*A Pikeville driver was injured in a two-vehicle crash at 8:25 a.m. Oct. 24 at Lancaster and Big Daddy's roads, the Highway Patrol said. Rozita J. White, 38, of Beulah Drive was released after emergency-room treatment. The other motorist, Kimberly Ann Walton, 36, of Plantation Road, was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end crash. Damages were put at $600.
Thefts
Wayne County sheriff's deputies are investigating these reports:
*Survey equipment was stolen Wednesday from alongside Stevens Mill Road, sheriff's deputies said. The equipment, valued at $5,900, was owned by Jim Blanchard and Associates of Kenansville.
*An old-fashioned guitar was stolen between Saturday and Wednesday from a truck in the 600 block of Fleetwood Drive, deputies said. The thief had smashed a window to get the guitar that was valued at $500. Damage to the truck, owned by an unidentified Illinois resident, was put at $100.
*Four tires and rims were stolen between Oct. 1 and Wednesday from a truck in the 200 block of Adds Road, deputies said. The owner and resident, Jonathan Matthew Hill, said the property was worth $1,700.
Investigations
Goldsboro police are investigating these reports:
*Four stage handguns, two starter pistols, ammunition and six radios were stolen between Oct. 14 and Wednesday from First Pentecostal Holiness Church at 1100 First Church Road, police said. The stolen property was valued at $1,377.
*A refrigerator and a microwave were stolen between Sunday and Wednesday after two doors and flooring were damaged at a home in the 600 block of Colonial Terrace, police said. The resident, John E. Williams, estimated the value of the stolen property at $780 and damages at $1,375.
*A paintball gun, a holster and other items were stolen between Tuesday and Wednesday after a window and a mirror were damaged in a sport utility vehicle in the 500 block of Todd Drive, police said. The resident and owner, Daniel R. Saylor, estimated the stolen property's value at more than $370 and damage at $150.
*A gold, four-door 1996 Nissan Maxima was stolen Wednesday from the 100 block of North Lionel Street, police said. The car, owned by Johnny's Auto Sales of Goldsboro, was valued at $7,000.
*A green, five-door 1996 Ford Windstar van was stolen between Tuesday and Wednesday from the 1000 block of Evergreen Avenue, police said. The owner and resident, J.F. Lamb, said the van was worth $3,500.
Drug charge
A 26-year-old Goldsboro man was arrested Wednesday night by Goldsboro police and charged with a felony drug offense.
Jonathan A. Heath of Edgerton Street was charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine and not having an operator's license. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $10,000 secured bond.
Missing
A 13-year-old Goldsboro boy was reported missing Wednesday to Goldsboro police. Christopher Devon Sims of 1110-D Slaughter St. was described as black, 5-feet-1 and 86 pounds with black hair, brown eyes and a medium complexion. When he was seen last at 7:10 p.m., he was wearing a red jersey under a white T-shirt, jeans and black shoes. Anyone with information on his location was asked to call police at 705-6572.
