Nine to compete for Miss Goldsboro on Saturday night

More than $10,000 in combined scholarships to be awarded to nine contestants at the 2006 Miss Goldsboro Scholarship Pageant on Saturday night.
The event will be held at 7:30 p.m. at the Mount Olive Historical Assembly Hall.
The young women competing for the scholarships, the title of Miss Goldsboro, and the opportunity to advance to the Miss North Carolina Pageant are:
*Betsy Lee Overman a Freshman at Elon University, is promoting the American Cancer Society as her platform. She is the daughter of Harold and Lorenda Overman of Goldsboro. She will be performing a vocal arrangement of "Someone Like You" for her talent competition.
*Alyssa Echo Painter is a second-year student at Wayne Community College. She will be promoting the awareness of Heart Disease and Women. She is the daughter of Beth and Scott Painter of Mount Olive. She will be performing a jazz routine to "All that Jazz" for her talent competition.
*Brandy Michelle Phipps is a Freshman at Salem College and her community service project is Hospice Volunteerism and Education. She is the daughter of Shannon Anttila of Dudley. She will perform a vocal to "Don Juan" for her talent competition.
*Jenea Marie Kraus is a senior at Charles B. Aycock High School and the daughter of Robert and Joanne Kraus of Goldsboro. Her community service project is promoting Positive Development of Family Values Within Children. For her talent, she will dance to a "Jazz Mix."
*Sugeyris (Suhaidi) Cepeda is the daughter of Catalina Marcovich of Fremont. She is a student at Wilson Technical Community College and for her community service platform she has chosen Preventing Teen Pregnancies. She will be performing a hip hop jazz dance to "Oh" for her talent.
*Ashlyn Kendra Barnes is a first-year student at Wayne Community College. She will be focusing on brain trauma awareness as her community service platform and for her talent, she will be dancing to "Miracle." She is the daughter of William and Linda Barnes of Pikeville.
*Brittan Elizabeth Wheeler is a college transfer student at Wayne Community College and the daughter of Stephen and Jeanee Wheeler of Goldsboro. She will perform a lyrical dance to "Beautiful" her talent. Her community service platform is "finding your beauty within."
*Jeri Anne Jackson is a senior at Southern Wayne High School and the daughter of the Rev. Dr. Jerry and Annette Jackson of Goldsboro. She is focusing on the Make a Wish Foundation as her community service platform and she will be performing a jazz dance to "I Feel the Earth Move" as her talent.
*Brandy Hardison is the daughter of Jarred and Cindi Pate of Pikeville. A senior at Charles B. Aycock High School, she will be promoting "Abstinence, the Pure Promise" as her community service platform and for her talent she will perform a comedy routine.
The evening's program will include the current Miss Goldsboro, Kandis Weeks, Outstanding Teen Crystal Vinson, two Carolina Princesses, Sarah Rhodes and Laura Vinson, and special entertainment by emcee Ron Sutton, Caroline Vinson, the Dancin' Daze Dancers and Southern Wayne High School's Saint Sound.
