Wayne schools observe Make a Difference Day

For this year's "Make a Difference Day," students, teachers and administrators in Wayne County Public Schools did their part to help those who can't help themselves.
The USA Weekend Magazine's annual event was held Saturday, Oct. 22. The weekly magazine reported involvement from 3 million people last year, accomplishing thousands of projects around the nation.
Disaster Relief sparked many schools to begin their "Make a Difference" projects several weeks early. Some schools plan to continue projects throughout the year.
Mount Olive Middle School held a food drive for the Salvation Army and collected hygiene products for the Red Cross. The school planned to present a $320.00 check to the Red Cross to help Hurricane Katrina victims.
Tommy's Road Elementary also spent several weeks working to help storm victims pick up the pieces. Students collected canned goods, hygiene products, school supplies, and raised $150 for the Red Cross.
Eastern Wayne High School held a BBQ dinner sale to benefit hurricane Katrina relief last month. Students at the school are also taking advantage of service opportunities to help those in need right here at home.
Some volunteer at the Community Soup kitchen, Alterra Sterling House, MERCI Center, Wayne Memorial Hospital, Red Cross Blood Mobile, the Brian Center, and by being a bell ringer for the Salvation Army.
