Franklin Baking to hold barbecue for Katrina victims

Franklin Baking Company will hold a barbecue chicken cookout Wednesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the company, 607 N. Carolina St.
The cookout is open to the public with all proceeds going to the Flowers Foods Disaster Relief Fund to help Flowers employees in Louisiana and the Gulf Coast who suffered losses during Hurricane Katrina.
"About 100 of our employees and associates lost their homes and all their possessions due to the hurricane and flooding," said Tom Buffkin, Franklin Baking president. "Our employees want to do something to help their co-workers who have suffered great losses. Flowers Foods, our parent company, has set up the relief fund and will match donations up to $250,000.
Cost for a barbecue plate is $6. Orders can be placed by calling the bakery at 735-0344.
