16th drug arrest
A 16th person was arrested Thursday by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office and charged with felony drug offenses as a result of a year-long undercover drug campaign.
Tony Paul Young, 29, of Mill Creek Court was charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine and sale and delivery of cocaine. He also was picked up on two outstanding arrest orders for failing to pay child support. Young was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $50,600 secured bond.
Wayne authorities are seeking four more people in the drug roundup. Twenty people were charged with 52 drug violations.
4 hurt in wrecks
Four people were injured and damages were estimated at $26,000 in four recent traffic collisions in Wayne County, officers reported.
*A northbound driver was injured and damages were estimated at $12,500 in a two-vehicle crash at 12:43 p.m. Thursday at N.C. 111 and N.C. 55, the Highway Patrol said. John Moses Branch, 89, of Red Hill Road, Mount Olive, was treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said. Branch was charged with a yield violation at a stop sign. The report said his sport utility vehicle had collided with a westbound pickup truck that was driven by Major Thurston Wiggins, 69, of Piney Grove Road, LaGrange.
*A driver from Goldsboro was injured in a two-vehicle collision at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at West Pine and South George streets, Goldsboro police said. Alethea Verite Grayson, 22, of Courtyard Circle was released after emergency-room treatment. She also was charged with a safe-movement violation and driving while her license was revoked. The report said Ms. Grayson had tried to pass a Best Sand and Gravel dump truck on the right side and the vehicles collided. The truck was driven by Russell Patrick Price, 39, of Ruby Road. Damages were set at $1,500.
*Both drivers were injured and damages were estimated at $6,000 in a two-car wreck at 5:16 p.m. Wednesday at Old Mount Olive Road and Royall Drive, the Highway Patrol said. Carmellas Jacques Yelverton, 32, of Genoa Road, Dudley, was listed today in stable condition at Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said. Sheena Irene Bowden, 19, of Alder Lane, Dudley, was treated and released. Ms. Bowden was charged with a safe-movement violation. The report said Ms. Bowden had started a left turn to Royall Drive and the car that she was driving collided with Yelverton's oncoming, northbound auto.
*A driver was charged with exceeding a safe speed after his car ran off Camp Jubilee Road near Pineview Cemetery Road at 8:07 a.m. Sunday, the Highway Patrol said. Pablo Vail Juarez, 29, of Taco Drive, Seven Springs, was not injured. The northbound car had run off the right side, the driver lost control, and the car ran off the left side, struck a mail box and power pole, the report said. Damages were estimated at $6,000.
Break-ins
Wayne County sheriff's deputies are investigating these reports:
*A camcorder, 32 DVDs and two gold chains were stolen Thursday after a door was damaged at a home in the 1500 block of Grantham School Road, sheriff's deputies said. One resident, Rexford Glenn Hinson, put a $700 value on the camcorder and set damage at $350. Another resident, Rexford Andrew Hinson, estimated the value of the other stolen property at $1,120.
*A ring and food were stolen between Oct. 13 and Thursday from a home in the 800 block of Stoney Creek Church Road, deputies said. The thief smashed a window to get inside, the report said. The resident, P.K. Ferrell, estimated the stolen property's value at $210 and damage at $200.
Investigations
Goldsboro police are investigating these reports:
*The door and electrical system of a drink machine was damaged between Wednesday and Thursday outside of the Piggly Wiggly supermarket at 100 N. Lionel St. and about $25 was stolen, police said. Damages were estimated at $500. A dollar bill unit of a drink machine at the Food Lion supermarket at 219 N.C. 111 South also was damaged, police said. The amount of damage and money stolen have not been determined.
*Two laptop computers were stolen between Monday and Thursday from a storage room at Wayne Community College, police said. The computers were valued at $3,650.
