The Goldsboro Family Y is having a party from 6 until 8:30 p.m. Saturday for ghoulies and goblins.
It's time for some spooky, silly fun, senior program director Hal Warner said when he announced the party and invited the children and told them to bring their parents.
"There's not a ghost of a chance you'll be disappointed," he said. He promised there will be fun for all ages.
He said for 16 years in a row the Family Y has hosted a variety of organized activities like this year's offerings. The offerings include an indoor haunted trail, a haunted boat ride, games and prizes. There will be face painting, a cake walk, and Turnip Tramp the clown will be on hand. The Y has also arranged for a Space Walk to be available in a safe, supervised environment.
"Sure Halloween means bags of treats," he said. "But it's also a day for the kids to use their imaginations in the costumes that they create and wear. Halloween can be a creative and social experience for all."
For those heading out for some trick-or-treating, the Y offered these safety tips:
*Wear light-colored costumes that are also flame-retardant.
*Wear costumes on the short side to prevent tripping, and have night-time reflectors on them.
*Use face make-up, no hoods or masks that can obscure the face and vision.
*Moms and dads take your younger children door-to-door during the daylight hours.
*Trick-or-treat in you own neighborhood and only to the homes where you know the people.
*Ensure young children are escorted by adults or responsible older siblings.
*Carry a working flashlight.
*Be alert to auto traffic, crossing safely and following the rules.
*Have parents or other adults inspect the treats before eating them.
*Remind you children to accept no rides from strangers.
*This year celebrate Halloween as quality time for the whole family.
