Grandmother charged in granddaughter's death

MOUNT OLIVE -- Mount Olive Police Chief Emmett Ballree said "an argument that just went too far" Saturday resulted in a 57-year-old woman being charged with killing her 21-year-old granddaughter.
Carolyn Ann Boyette, 57, 204 E. Slocumb St., has been charged with an open count of murder and is being held without bond in Wayne County Jail.
Meanwhile, the body of her granddaughter, 21-year-old Tiesha Faison, also of 204 E. Slocumb St., will be sent to Chapel Hill for an autopsy, Ballree said.
The incident reportedly occurred at 201 E. Slocumb St., the home of Ms. Faison's great-grandmother, he said. A 911 call of a domestic between two family members came in around 12:30 p.m. Saturday.
Police responded and found the victim unconscious on the floor, he said. Emergency personnel were also dispatched and took Ms. Faison to Wayne Memorial Hospital.
Ballree said he was uncertain whether the victim was pronounced dead before or after arrival at the hospital. A nursing supervisor at the hospital said she was unable to comment on the time of death.
Ms. Boyette was questioned and arrested shortly after the incident, Ballree said, estimating the time at around 2 p.m.
Ballree could not speculate on the cause of death.
"Honestly, we don't know," he said, calling it a "domestic that went bad."
At least two other people were present in the home at the time the incident occurred, he said.
