TJ Maxx opens its door Sunday

Retailer T.J. Maxx will open its Goldsboro store in Berkeley Commons on Sunday.
The retail clothing store will occupy a 31,000-square-foot location, and is the third store in the new shopping center to open. Ross Dress for Less opened a few weeks ago and Bed Bath & Beyond opened Oct. 11.
T.J. Maxx officials recognized Goldsboro's market potential and decided to locate here, said a company spokesman.
"We typically go into locations where people are fashion, yet value conscious," said Jenn Goonan.
T.J. Maxx calls itself an "off-price retailer." Goonan said the company gets high-quality designer name merchandise at up 60 percent off department store prices and passes the savings on to its customers.
In addition to apparel, the Goldsboro store will offer a larger accessories department than typical T.J. Maxx stores, Goonan said. The offering will feature handbags, fine jewelry and luggage. The store will also have departments that sell toys and educational books, domestics, wall decor lamps, serving ware and ladies' footwear.
According to Goonan, the store will receive 10,000 new items each week. "There's a continual flow of fresh merchandise," she said. Literally, the store varies from week to week."
In addition to adding to the retail merchandise mix available in Goldsboro, the company has added a number of jobs, including management positions. Goonan said there would be as many as 75 job openings, some part-time.
T.J. Maxx operates over 800 stores in 48 states. Grand-opening hours will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Regular store hours will be 9:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sundays.
