Mobile home fire
A single-wide mobile home at 475 Nor-Am Road was destroyed Monday in a fire of an undetermined cause, a fire official said.
Little River Volunteer Fire Chief Mike Aycock said the resident smelled smoke, looked toward her bedroom at the other end of the home and saw the fire. The resident, Kay Slade, got out unharmed. Aycock said the cause of the fire had not been determined.
Seven Little River firefighters answered the 2:27 p.m. call with three trucks and needed about an hour and a half to put out the blaze, investigate the cause and finish salvage work. Nahunta volunteers assisted. The value of the home and contents also had not been determined.
3 hurt in wrecks
Three people were injured and damages were estimated at $10,000 in three recent traffic collisions in Wayne County, officers reported.
*A northbound Goldsboro driver was injured in a two-vehicle collision at 7:50 a.m. Monday at East Ash Street and North Audubon Avenue, Goldsboro police said. Toreaks Devone Smith, 31, of Carver Drive was treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said. An eastbound driver, Harold James Schneck, 70, of Derek Drive, was charged with a stoplight violation. Damages were set at $3,000.
*An eastbound Goldsboro driver was injured in a two-vehicle crash at 1:40 p.m. Monday at East Ash Street and North Spence Avenue, police said. Sharon H. Matthews, 44, of Genoa Road, Dudley, was released after emergency-room treatment. The other driver, Shawn Adams Jennings, 41, of Pikeville-Princeton Road, Pikeville, was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end crash. Damages were put at $2,500.
*A driver was injured in a one-car wreck at 9:19 p.m. Friday on Lancaster Road near Airport Road, the Highway Patrol said. Kevin Dwayne Elkins, 20, of Stantonsburg was treated, admitted and later released from the hospital, a spokeswoman said. He was charged with suspicion of driving while impaired after the car ran off the left side in a curve, struck a ditch and overturned, the report said. The car, valued at $4,500, was demolished.
Investigations
Wayne County law-enforcement officers are investigating these reports:
*About 250 aluminum wheels were stolen between Friday and Monday from vehicles at Young's Auto Salvage at 4117 U.S. 117 Alternate, Dudley, sheriff's deputies said. The wheels were valued at $18,750.
*Eighteen cases of motor oil and two padlocks were stolen between Friday and Monday from a shed at Edwards Service Station at 501 N. William St., Goldsboro police said. The thief also had damaged a chain-link fence, the report said. The oil was valued at $432. Damage was set at $200.
*A blue and gray, four-door 1996 Dodge Intrepid was stolen between Oct. 11 and Monday from the 200 block of West Oak Street, police said. The owner and resident, Jessica Schroeder, admitted that she had left the key inside and the car unlocked. The car was valued at $3,000.
