Feast in the East still needs vendors

There is still time to sell food or crafts at this year's Feast in the East, organizers say.
The second annual Eastern North Carolina Barbecue Festival will take place Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 28-29, at the Wayne Regional Agricultural Fair-grounds.
Vendors are still needed, said Patty Graham, director of membership and marketing with the Wayne County Chamber of Commerce.
"The whole purpose of Feast in the East is to promote the area for economic development, focusing on agritourism," Mrs. Graham said. "This is a great opportunity for some of our non-profits and civic organizations to come out and do some fundraising," she said.
The cost for renting a booth differs for nonprofit and for-profit groups. Rental for a both measuring 10 feet by 10 feet is $40 for a nonprofit group, $80 for-profit. Booths measuring 20 feet by 10 feet rent for $80 for nonprofit and $120 for-profit.
Food vendors may only sell water or non-soda drink products, and may not sell pork barbecue. Vendor applications will be accepted through Saturday, and may be picked up at the Chamber office at 308 N. William St. or online at http://www.feastintheeast.org.
The "Swine Fest" barbecue cook-off will begin Friday night. A showmanship competition is planned for 8 p.m. Teams with the most creative theme and decoration will be rewarded in the showmanship contest. Barbecue judging will take place Saturday morning at 9:45 a.m., with awards announced at 11:45.
Also taking place are the Stars of the East talent contest beginning at 2 p.m. Saturday, and the Recycled Piggy contest, open to all Wayne County students.
Two sporting events are planned in conjunction with Feast in the East. A golf tournament is scheduled for Oct. 27 at Goldsboro Municipal Golf Course, and a tennis tournament is scheduled for Oct. 29 at Herman Park.
Other attractions Saturday include children's activities sponsored by Goldsboro Parks and Recreation, a hay maze, and entertainment from the U.S. Air Force Blue Aces band. Also planned are performances by Elvis Presley and Tim McGraw tribute acts, comedian Cousin Brossy and a visit by Miss North Carolina 2005, Brook McLaurin.
