The Wayne County Lights On After School program will hold a luncheon Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. at the Wayne Center to discuss the importance of after-school programs. It is open to school officials, community leaders, parents and students.
Lights On After School is a nationwide drive to recognize the importance of quality after-school programs for children, their families and their communities.
It is sponsored by the JCPenney Afterschool Fund and the After School Alliance, a nonprofit public awareness and advocacy organization dedicated to ensuring that all children have access to after-school programs by the year 2010.
This is the 6th Annual Lights On event. During the luncheon, children from the Boys and Girls Club of Wayne County will perform a dance.
The Boys and Girls Club will continue the celebration with a talent show Thursday from 6-7 p.m. at the club.
