Michael M. King has been promoted to the rank of senior master sergeant in the U.S. Air Force.

King, a personnel programs superintendent, is assigned to Bolling Air Force Base in Washington, D.C. He has served in the military for 21 years.

He is the son of Laura A. and Gilbert B. Bush of Goldsboro and a 1984 graduate of Eastern Wayne Senior High School.

Army Pfc. Qutinia M. Chestnutt has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.

Chestnutt is the daughter of Kimberly Graham of Warsaw and is a 2005 graduate of James Kenan High School.

Army Reserve Pfc. Jimmy A. Williams has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.

Williams earned distinction as an honor graduate.

He is the son of Jimmy Williams of Red Bird Lane of Dudley and a 2005 graduate of Southern Wayne High School.

Marine Corps Private James D. Condon, son of Linda L. and John P. Condon of LaGrange , recently completed basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S. C and was promoted to his current rank.

He successfully completed the 12-week training course designed to challenge recruits both physically and mentally.

In addition to the physical conditioning program, Condon spent numerous hours in classroom and field assignments which included learning first aid, uniform regulations, combat water survival, marksmanship, hand-to-hand combat and assorted weapons training. They performed close order drill and operated as a small infantry unit during field training.

Condon is a 2005 graduate of Eastern Wayne High School.

Senior Airman William G. Barclay has reported for duty in Mildenhall, England, for a three-year assignment with the 67th Special Operations Squadron.

He is a flight engineer on the C-130 and will refuel helicopters. He was previously assigned to the 2nd Airlift Squadron at Pope Air Force Base.

He is a 1998 graduate of Eastern Wayne High School and is the son of Becky Barclay of Goldsboro and the grandson of June Caldwell of Indianapolis, Ind.

Army National Guard Pfc. Walter L. Holeman has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, and received instruction and practice in weapons and combat skills and participated in field training exercises.

A 2005 graduate of Southern Wayne High School, he is the son of Tricia J. Haigler and grandson of Rose M. Morgan,, both of Dudley, N.C.

Army Reserve Pfc. Matthew L. Walters has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Knox, Ky.

During the nine-week training period, the trainee received instruction in drill and ceremony, weapons, rifle marksmanship and bayonet training, chemical warfare, field training and tactical exercises, and armed and unarmed combat.

He is the son of Larry and Jeanette Walters of Goldsboro and is a 2003 graduate of Southern Wayne High School.

Army Spc. Natasha S. Hood is currently serving in Darmstadt, Germany, as a 92 Yankee Supply Specialist after duty in Iraq.

She left for Germany after coming home on Aug. 8 for an early 20th-birthday celebration.

She is the daughter of George and Jill Smith of Mount Olive. She is the granddaughter of George Smith Sr. of LaGrange and Alexander Weeks Sr. of Newberry S.C.

Navy Petty Officer 1st Class Rodney N. Bullock, a 1985 graduate of Goldsboro High School, Goldsboro and his fellow shipmates returned from a scheduled deployment while assigned to the amphibious assault ship USS Kearsarge homeported in Norfolk, Va.

Bullock's unit conducted maritime security operations assigned to the Kearsarge Expeditionary Strike Group.

The USS Kearsarge supports amphibious assault operations using Hovercraft that travel above land and sea surfaces to deliver vehicles and equipment. The ship also has conventional landing craft and helicopters embarked, and is equipped with medical facilities staffed by Navy dentists, nurses and corpsmen.

Army Pfc. Victoria A. Worrells has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.

She is the daughter of Alma M. Worrells of Daffodil Drive, Dudley, and a 2004 graduate of Goldsboro High School.

Stephen T. Harper graduated from the Army Reserve Officer Training Corps Leader Development and Assessment Course, also known as "Operation Warrior Forge," at Fort Lewis, Tacoma, Wash.

The 33 days of training provides the best possible professional training and evaluation for all cadets in the aspects of military life, administration and logistical support. Although continued military training and leadership development is included in the curriculum, the primary focus of the course is to develop and evaluate each cadet's officer potential as a leader by exercising the cadet's intelligence, common sense, ingenuity and stamina. The cadet command assesses each cadet's performance and progress in officer traits, qualities and professionalism while attending the course.

Harper is attending Hawaii Pacific University in Honolulu.

He is the son of Thomas O. and Linda R. Harper of Goldsboro and a 1996 graduate of Faith Christian Academy.

Army Pvt. Safonia P. Meadows has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

Army Reserve Pvt. Nekiel Atkinson has graduated from basic combat military training at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla.

During the eight weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission and received instruction in drill and ceremonies, rifle marksmanship, weapons, map reading, tactics, armed and unarmed combat, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, Army history, core values and traditions, and special training in human relations.

Atkinson is the son of Terri Atkinson and the grandson of Carolyn Jackson of Goldsboro.
