Lighthouse thrift store is permanently closed

The Lighthouse of Wayne County's thrift store has closed permanently.
Last year, the Lighthouse received a grant to help open the Beacon of Hope thrift store. Co-director Cheri Seronick said donations were up, but sales were down.
"The thrift store was nowhere near being self-sufficient," she said. "So we had to close it."
The Beacon of Hope had two purposes. One was to generate funds to use for client services. The other was to allow domestic violence victims to choose free clothing and household items from items that were donated to the store.
Mrs. Seronick said the Lighthouse has partnered with the Support Our Schools thrift store, operated by Monica Eason, to help domestic violence victims. Residents of the Lighthouse's safehouse and its outreach clients will receive vouchers that will allow them to receive free clothing from Support Our Schools.
Mrs. Seronick is encouraging people to donate clothing to Support Our Schools to help domestic violence victims.
The store is located at 108 N. Center St., and is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The phone number is 735-2997.
The Lighthouse will still accept donations of household items and some furniture at its office at 405 E. Walnut St.
