Assaults
Three people were injured in separate weekend assaults, according to Goldsboro police reports.
Otavis McKinney, 17, of South Andrews Avenue was shot in the leg at about 11:30 p.m. Saturday in the 1200 block of Olivia Lane. Police said they were notified by Wayne Memorial Hospital personnel about the injury. But a WMH spokeswoman said she could find no record of his treatment.
McKinney said he was walking on Olivia Lane, where a black man wearing a ski mask and a toboggan walked up to him, shot him and fled in a black car. He refused to give police any other information, the report said.
Dwight M. Jones, 46, of Walnut Street told police that two black men assaulted him at 11:34 p.m. Saturday in the 500 block of West Walnut Street. He was cut and had several teeth knocked out. He was released after emergency-room treatment. Jones also reported that his hearing aids, valued at $1,000, were lost or stolen.
One assailant was described as being in his 30s, 5-feet-8 and 140 pounds. The other was also in his 30s, 6-feet-3 and 190 pounds.
Jamie L. Stevens, 41, of Brazil Street was cut on the hand at 12:05 a.m. Sunday in a woman's apartment on Courtyard Circle, a police report said. Stevens was released after emergency-room treatment. Police said the assault was domestic-related. The assailant was described only as black.
Accidents
Six people were injured and damages were estimated at $58,600 in 10 recent traffic collisions in Wayne County, officers reported.
*Two passengers were injured in a two-car collision at 8:57 p.m. Sunday at North Spence Avenue and the entrance to the Pinewood Square shopping center, Goldsboro police said. Antonio Deans, 12, and Myelle Thompson, 11, both of Carver Drive, were treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said. Their driver, Steve D. Deans, 26, of Slaughter Street, had stopped in the left turn lane. The other driver, Kevin Dwayne Elkins, 20, of Stantonsburg, was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end collision. Damages were set at $300.
*A motorcyclist was injured in a wreck at 5:37 p.m. Sunday at Royall Avenue and Sunburst Drive, police said. Jose Castaneda Vega, 19, of Eagles Nest Road, Dudley, was making a left turn and his wheels spun, causing him to lose control of the bike, and it overturned, ejecting him. Vega was listed today in stable condition in intensive care at Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said. No charges were filed. The motorcycle had about $3,000 in damages.
*A driver was injured and damages were estimated at $5,500 in a three-vehicle crash at 11 a.m. Saturday at North Berkeley Boulevard and Parkway Drive, police said. Lisa Mack Lewis, 46, of Winterville was released after emergency-room treatment. The report said a second motorist, Amanda Michelle Bappert, 25, of Lancaster Road, Pikeville, had pulled from Parkway Drive and collided with Ms. Lewis' southbound sport utility vehicle. The impact of the crash sent Ms. Lewis car into a parked SUV in a parking lot. The parked SUV was registered to Kerry Dale Dhemecourt of Woods Mill Road.
*A hit-and-run vehicle slammed into two parked cars at about 4:11 a.m. Saturday in the 900 block of Edgerton Street, inflicting about $6,000 in damages, police said. The parked cars were registered to David Harris of East Chelly Street, Warsaw, and Gwendolyn B. Stevens of Edgerton Street.
*Damages were estimated at $6,000 in a two-car collision at 8:06 p.m. Saturday at North Spence Avenue and Mall Road, police said. One driver, Zacharia T. Bowden, 18, of Nelson Drive, was charged with a child-restraint violation and failure to comply with license restrictions. The report said the northbound car that Ms. Bowden was driving collided with an eastbound auto driven by Amber Danielle Harris, 17, of Aspen Circle. Both drivers said they had the green light.
*A was charged with driving while impaired after a two-vehicle crash at 10 a.m. Saturday on North Berkeley Boulevard near Ridgecrest Drive, police said. Roberta C. Benny, 21, of Chandler Road also was charged with a safe-movement violation and not having an operator's license. The report said her car rear-ended a sport utility vehicle driven by Anne Kathleen Whitis, 38, of Seymour Johnson Air Force Base. Damages were set at $10,000.
*Damages were estimated at $5,500 in a two-vehicle wreck at 8:10 p.m. Saturday at Andrews Avenue and East Walnut Street, police said. One driver, Sylvester Earl Braswell, 37, of South Andrews Avenue, was charged with a safe-movement violation. The report said. Braswell was making a left turn and his car collided with an oncoming, southbound pickup truck that was driven by Manuel Antonio Mayorga, 32, of Pittman Street.
*A driver was injured and damages were put at $9,800 in a collision at 2:45 p.m. Friday at East Ash Street and Oak Forest Road, police said. Brian Michael McLaurin, 22, of North Hereford Drive, Dudley, was released after emergency-room treatment. McLaurin, who was going east, was charged with a stoplight violation. The other driver, Dana Gayle Look, 31, of Lynn Avenue, was going north.
*A driver was injured his sport utility vehicle was demolished in a wreck at 9:40 a.m. Friday on Outlaw Road near Genoa Road, the Highway Patrol said. Timothy Arrington, 51, of Robin Lake Drive, Dudley, was released after emergency-room treatment. He was charged with exceeding a safe speed after his SUV hydroplaned on the wet road, ran off the right side and struck a tree. The SUV was valued at $5,000.
*Damages were estimated at $7,500 in a two-vehicle crash at 7:30 a.m. Friday at N.C. 111 and Spring Bank Road, the Highway Patrol said. One motorist, Anna Tressa Potter, 16, of Sevendales Drive, was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end crash. The other driver, Kimberly M. Dawson, 42, of N.C. 111 South, had stopped to make a left turn, the report said.
Home invasion
Two brothers say two men barged into their business Friday night and stole firearms and cash, according to a report filed with the Wayne County Sheriff's Office.
Mark Easton and Scott Easton told deputies that two black men entered their business in the 200 block of Arrington Bridge Road at 8 p.m. Friday, displayed a gun and demanded money.
Mark Easton reported the theft of $850, a cell phone, valued at $150, and personal papers. Scott Easton reported the larceny of three shotguns, valued at $4,400.
Thefts
Wayne County sheriff's deputies are investigating these reports:
*A 2001 Suzuki dirt bike, a 1994 Yamaha dirt bike, a generator, a chain saw, a weed trimmer and a set of Mustang wheels were stolen between Friday and Saturday from a barn in the 300 block of Wendy Circle, sheriff's deputies said. The resident, Rufus Alexander Hamilton, put an $8,771 value on his property. A lawn mower also sustained about $300 in damages.
*A red 1989 GMC truck, tools and $215 were stolen between Saturday and Sunday from the 900 block of Hood Swamp Road, deputies said. The owner and resident, Joseph Corbett, said the tools were worth $1,000. The thieves also inflicted about $300 in damages to the Corbett's home, but nothing was reported stolen.
*Two shotguns, a .32 caliber handgun, three rings and a diamond necklace were stolen between Friday and Sunday from a home in the 2800 block of Nahunta Road, deputies said. The resident, M.C. Woodard, put a $1,775 value on the property.
*A gold chain, a gold nugget ring, a strong box and $150 in coins were stolen Friday after two doors were damaged at a home in the 3700 block of N.C. 222 East, Seven Springs, deputies said. The resident, Darrell Wayne Stroud, estimated the value of his property at $930 and damages at $500.
*A welding unit with its own trailer and 500 feet of cable were stolen between Friday and Sunday from Case Farms at 300 Pecan Road, deputies said. The property, owned by Professional Pipe Inc. of Peachland, was valued at $5,000.
*Ten metal carts and 15 black plastic containers were stolen between Friday and Sunday from the Dollar General store at 2469 U.S. 117 South, deputies said. The property was valued at $1,700.
Investigations
Goldsboro police are investigating these reports:
*Two bottles of medicine were stolen Sunday after a window was smashed at Southeast Family Pharmacy at 223 N.C. 111 South, police said. The medicine was valued at $230. Damage was set at $200.
*A driver left the key in his car Friday night in the 300 block of East Holly Street and when he returned Saturday, the auto was gone. Frank Leon Hardee of Kinston said his blue, four-door 1990 Ford Escort was worth $1,500.
