Rose Hill volunteer EMS to end service

The Rose Hill Volunteer Emergency Medical Services will no longer answer calls after Friday.
The volunteers have been helping paid county paramedics by answering back-up calls on week nights from 6 p.m. until 6 a.m. since Oct. 2 last year.
But EMS Director Curtis Brock said the volunteers had only six people left on their roster, and other demands kept the them from being able to handle weekend calls.
He said interest in volunteerism has fallen to an all time low. He said it is impossible for any squad to continue to function with only six people.
He said EMS service to Rose Hill will continue as usual. The county has a paid paramedic ambulance covering the Rose Hill area 24 hours a day 7 days a week, along with five other paid paramedic ambulances stationed strategically around the county and four quick response vehicles responding in the county.
