Tammy expected to bring rain -- maybe lots of it

A tropical depression off the east coast of Florida became Tropical Storm Tammy this morning and could bring much-needed rainfall with the heaviest downpours beginning Thursday and lasting into Friday.
Tammy is the 19th named storm of the 2005 Atlantic hurricane season which does not end until Nov. 30.
At 7:30, the center of the storm was located about 155 miles south-southeast of Jacksonville, Fla. Tammy was moving north-northwest at 16 mph and was expected to nearly parallel to the east coast of Florida today.
Maximum sustained winds were near 40 mph with higher gusts. The estimated barometric pressure was 29.65 inches. Some strengthening was expec-ted.
The National Hurricane Center said the angle of approach makes it difficult to predict a specific location or time the storm would make landfall. Most of the strong winds and heavy rains were located north and east of the center of circulation.
The storm is expected to bring 3-5 inches of rain to portions of Florida, Georgia and eastern North and South Carolina.
Wayne is among counties that could get as much as 8-10 inches.
