Annual Kids Fest Saturday

October is being celebrated as Child Health Month in Wayne County.

In recognition, the Wayne County Heath Department is gearing up for its eighth annual Kids' Fest set for Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Berkeley Mall.

Twenty-seven organizations will participate, with more than 35 educational exhibits and fun activities promoting the health, safety and well-being of children and youth.

This year's Kids' Fest continues to feature the musical talent of local kids on center stage. Schools displaying their musical talents will include the Show Choir from Eastern Wayne High School and students from Carver Heights Elementary, as well as other local youth.

The Woodmen of the World will be providing free ID kits for children and youth up to 15 years of age. The Goldsboro Fire Department will also feature its annual Fire Safety Store along with the Fire Safety House. Fire trucks will also be on display.

A booth sponsored by the Health Department will help teach young kids proper hand washing techniques while Sparkles the Purple Germ Buster will provide kids with a free hands inspection. A talking Buckle Bear will be making his first appearance this year and will provide education on the importance of buckling up.

Safe Kids Coalition of Wayne County will provide booster seat information.

Additional exhibits will focus on general nutrition, diabetes, the importance of physical activity, recreational resources, substance abuse prevention, the importance of reading to kids and lead poisoning prevention.more.
