Man charged
A 20-year-old Goldsboro man was arrested Sunday by Goldsboro police and charged with second-degree kidnapping, breaking and entering and assault with a deadly weapon.
The victim told officers that the man came to her apartment on Marvin Street at about 11 a.m., then assaulted her and ordered her to get in her car and drive him around.
At one point, she said the man pulled out a pistol, cocked the hammer and threatened to kill her, the report said. She drove to a convenience store on South John Street, and he got out, leaving the pistol, and fled on foot.
About three hours later, Nyquan McCullough, 20, of Cambria Lane was arrested and charged by Investigator M.K. Horstmann. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $15,000 secured bond. A-shift officers assisted in the investigation and arrest.
Kidnapping
A woman claims that a law-enforcement officer stopped her Friday, asked her to get in his car and took her to Pinkney Church Road before releasing her, a Wayne County Sheriff's Office report said.
The woman told sheriff's detectives that the supposed officer stopped her car at about 8:15 a.m. on U.S. 70 West. She said the officer then told her to have a seat in her car while he checked her information on his laptop computer. But she said she did not see a laptop and the car did not have a handle on the passenger door, the report said.
Another man got in her car and drove her car while the "officer" drove away with her. She was released later, the report said. Sheriff's officers responded to her home about two hours after the incident started.
4 hurt in wrecks
Four people were injured and damages were estimated at $42,925 in five recent traffic collisions in Wayne County, the Highway Patrol reported.
*A passenger was injured and damage was estimated at $5,000 in a one-car wreck at 4:12 p.m. Sunday on N.C. 222 near Reid Town Road, the Highway Patrol said. Victoria Crawford, 17, of Norwayne School Road, Fremont, was treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said. The driver, Steven Britt McCullen, 16, of Stan Ray Road, Fremont, was charged with speeding. The report said the car ran off the right side, came back on the road, then ran off the right side again and struck a ditch.
*A driver was injured in a one-car wreck at 6:45 a.m. Saturday on Stevens Mill Road, west of Falling Creek Church Road, the Highway Patrol said. Jessica Nicole Ballance, 18, of Manley Grove Church Road, Mount Olive, was charged with driving while impaired and reckless driving. The report said the car ran off the left side, struck a mail box, spun around and ran off the right side. Damages were set at $325.
*A westbound driver was injured and damages were estimated at $6,000 in a two-vehicle collision at 3:50 p.m. Saturday at N.C. 55 and N.C. 111, the Highway Patrol said. Douglas Fabian Barnhill, 26, of Windsong Lane was released after emergency-room treatment. A northbound motorist, Margarita Reyes, 38, of Jim Outlaw Road, Mount Olive, was charged with a yield violation at a stop sign.
*A driver was injured and damages were estimated at $26,100 in a crash at 5:45 p.m. Thursday at U.S. 70 and Beston Road, the Highway Patrol said. Ashley L. Jarrell, 18, of Kinston was listed today in stable condition at Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said. Ms. Jarrell, who was going south, was charged with a yield violation after her car collided with an eastbound pickup. The other driver was identified as Lloyd Wayne Slominsky, 51, of Raleigh.
*Damages were estimated at $5,500 in a two-vehicle collision at 3:45 p.m. Thursday at U.S. 117 and Airport Road, the Highway Patrol said. One driver, Jimmy Ballard Aycock, 58, of Britt Street, Pikeville, was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end collision. Aycock's pickup collided with a van that was driven by William Earl Bennett, 53, of Robersonville, the report said.
Investigations
Wayne County law-enforcement officers are investigating these reports:
*A thief damaged a back door, got inside, broke an interior door and then damaged two empty vending machines and a refrigerator at the Goldsboro Hog Farms wash station at 151 Best Sand and Gravel Road, sheriff's deputies said. Damages were estimated at $3,150. Nothing was reported stolen.
*Fifty-five compact discs and two cases were stolen Saturday after a car window was forced open in the Quality Inn parking lot at 300 Corporate Drive, Goldsboro police said. The owner, Debra Sanders of Philadelphia, put a $845 value on the missing property.
*A television, a video cassette recorder, a leaf blower and a microwave oven were stolen between Sept. 14 and Saturday after a window was smashed in a home in the 100 block of Durham Lake Road, deputies said. The property was valued at $410. Damage was set at $100.
*Two blow dryers, two curling irons, a curling brush and hair clippers were stolen between Thursday and Friday after a window was damaged at Deb's Cuts and Styles at 798 N.C. 111 South, deputies said. The stolen property was valued at $140. Damage was put at $150.
