Continuing Education courses are offered online at WCC

New online courses at Wayne Community College teach everything from writing skills to style.
The Continuing Education courses helps students develop their writing skills and learn how to write for specific genres.
These are a few of the courses:
*Beginning Writer's Workshop develops skill through practice. It offers in-depth writing experiences through hands-on exercises, expert advice and direct support.
*Mystery Writing uses examples from best-selling mystery novels to teach the techniques needed to become a successful author. Topics include three-act structure, the difference between plot and story, theme, premise, characters and viewpoint, and more. Students develop their original story idea and then brainstorm with the instructor and fellow students
*Writing for Children provides the tools and resources to grow as a writer for children through a highly interactive, hands-on course. Students will begin work on a manuscript, explore the changing world of children's literature and the various formats from baby's books to novels for young adults, and gain an understanding of the needs of today's market from guest authors and editors.
Other courses focus on other writing styles such as business, magazine, technical, travel, Internet, grant, screenplay and resume, or aspects of writing like grammar or creativity.
The Continuing Education courses begin Sept. 21 and cost $55.
New sessions of these courses, which run for six weeks, begin Oct. 19. Nov. 9 and Dec. 14.
All courses run for six to eight weeks and are composed of 12 lessons, representing 24 or more hours of instruction. Every course includes an instructor; these are not tutorials.
