Five members of the Goldsboro Exchange Club leave this weekend to help with hurricane disaster relief efforts and are seeking donations from the community.

Member David Poythress said the group began discussing what it could do to help victims of Hurricane Katrina. One mentioned the need for volunteers to go into the areas hardest hit and lend help.

"They were looking for someone to come down and bring chain saws and start helping clear roads and property," he said.

Poythress will be part of the group that includes Franklin Lane, club president, and members Ray Hill, Ralph Lindsay, and Joe Creech, who will drive his motor home. Creech's wife, Phyllis, will also volunteer as a cook preparing meals for volunteers.

The group departs on Sunday and will be gone for seven days. Their destination is Sandersville, Miss., population 700.

Donations needed for that particular area are chain saws, chain saw blades and chains, and bar oil for 14-inch and 16-inch saws. Items are requested to be dropped off to Poythress at the Partnership of Wayne County office, 800 N. William St. by Friday at 3 p.m.
