Man wounded
A 24-year-old Goldsboro man was shot Monday as he walked in the 300 block of South Carolina Street, according to a Goldsboro police report.
Michael J. Montgomery of West Pine Street was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital, where he was treated and released, a spokeswoman said.
The assailant was described as a black man, 6-feet tall and 200 pounds with short black hair. He wore a black shirt and blue jeans. He fled in a car after the 10:27 a.m. shooting. No arrests have been made.
Drug charge
A traffic stop on Monday on U.S. 117 South enabled the Aggressive Criminal Enforcement Team from the Wayne County Sheriff's Office to find $6,500 worth of cocaine and then to arrest a Dudley man.
Officers found a small amount of cocaine and marijuana in the car. After a further investigation, they found a larger amount of cocaine in a home in the 100 block of Hollybrook Lane.
The driver and resident, Anthony Ramon Vasquez, 20, was charged with trafficking in cocaine by possession, possession of cocaine and misdemeanor possession of marijuana. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $100,000 secured bond.
Two hurt in wrecks
Two people were injured and damages were estimated at $21,800 Monday in three traffic collisions in Goldsboro, police reported.
*Damages were estimated at $11,500 in a four-vehicle collision at 2:48 p.m. Monday at West Grantham Street and the entrance to Little River Shopping Center, police said. One driver, Phillip Michael Nicholson Jr., 21, of Ash Landing, was charged with a stoplight violation. The report said Nicholson ran the stoplight and his eastbound car collided with a northbound van that was driven by Nora C. Holland, 68, of Gurley Dairy Road, Pikeville. Nicholson's car then collided with a stopped, westbound sport utility vehicle that was driven by Freddie Alton Hooks, 67, of Evergreen Avenue, the report said, and the SUV was pushed into stopped westbound tractor-trailer that was operated by William Mitchell Hunter, 27, of Tarboro.
*A Goldsboro driver was injured in a two-vehicle crash Monday on North Spence Avenue near an exit ramp from Dr. M.L. King Jr. Expressway, the U.S. 70 bypass, police said. John Robert Brown, 19, of Brock Road was treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said. Another driver, the report said, Charles Thomas Gibson, 65, of Country Day Road, had stopped suddenly to avoid a cinderblock that had fallen from a truck in the other lane, and Brown could not stop in time. Brown was charged with failure to reduce speed. The truck driver, James Dixon Jr. of Perry Rivenbark Road, Warsaw, was charged with failure to secure a load. Damages were set at $3,900.
*Damages were estimated at $6,400 in a two-vehicle wreck at noon Monday at West Grantham Street and an exit ramp from South Dr. M.L. King Jr. Expressway, the U.S. 117-70 bypass, police said. One driver, William Harry Russo, 30, of Raleigh, was charged with a safe-movement violation. The report said Russo was making a U-turn and his car collided with a westbound tractor-trailer that was driven by Jerry Marvin Mills, 51, of Mills Road.
Investigations
Wayne County law-enforcement officers are investigating these reports:
*About $1,930 worth of jewelry was stolen between Sept. 10 and Monday from a home in the 300 block of Mobile Circle near Dudley, sheriff's deputies said. The thief may have damaged a door to get inside, the report said. The resident, R.C. Saquirre, reported the theft of a ring, necklace and earrings set, a graduation ring, two wedding rings, three gold necklaces and another ring.
*A power saw and a tool box were stolen between Friday and Monday after a van window was smashed in the 900 block of South John Street, Goldsboro police said. The stolen property was valued at $275. Damage was set at $150 to the van, owned by All About Flooring of 413 E. Ash St.
*A gray, four-door 1999 Ford Taurus was stolen Monday from the 900 block of West Oak Street, police said. The owner and resident, Linda Davis, said the car was worth $3,500.
Missing
Two teen-agers were reported missing Monday by relatives to the Wayne County Sheriff's Office.
*Sarah Kathleen Tripplet, 16, of 466 Braswell Road was described as white, 5-feet-5 and 120 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. She was seen last at 2:30 a.m. Thursday. The only clothing description available was that she was wearing blue jeans.
*Michael Willis Pounds, 18, of 104 J.R. Place was described as white, 5-feet-7 and 195 pounds with short brown hair, blue eyes and tattoos on both arms. When he was seen last at 4:30 p.m. Monday, he wearing sleep pants and riding a bicycle.
Anyone with information on the location of either person was asked to call the Sheriff's Office at 731-1481.
