Register stolen

A cash register with $250 and 102 inspection stickers were stolen Thursday night from S&D Towing and Tires at 550 Billy Price Road, Seven Springs, the Wayne County Sheriff's Office reported.

The business owner, Shelton D. Southerland, told deputies that he had left the garage door open at about 7:20 p.m. and went to dinner. The suspects damaged a lock on an inspection machine to get the stickers -- 41 yellow safety inspection stickers and 61 red, white and blue emission inspection stickers. A witness said the suspects jumped in a burgundy van and fled north.

The register was valued at $350, and the stickers were worth $2,203. Damage was set at $25.

Carter Hicks said Allen was not interviewed until he was being treated at Wayne Memorial Hospital. Allen received 14 stitches and was released, the report said.

The suspect was described as black, in his 30s, 6-feet-1 and 240 pounds with a heavy build and black hair in braids. He wore a gray shirt and blue jeans.
