Man arrested in shooting of police officer in Rose Hill

KENANSVILLE -- Tyrone David Williams, 30, of Rose Hill, was arrested Wednesday on charges regarding the shooting of a Rose Hill police officer.
Sheriff's officers and the SBI helped apprehend Williams, who was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, assault with a firearm on a law enforcement officer, possession of a firearm by a felon and felonious larceny.

Rose Hill Police Chief Michael O'Connell said one of his officers was with the team that caught Williams. Duplin authorities said Williams was found hiding under a bed in an Onslow County home. He is being held under $1 million bond in the Duplin County Jail.
Mitchell "Mitch" Anderson, a patrolman with the Rose Hill Police Department, responded to a domestic dispute call around 10:30 p.m. on the night of Sept. 10 on Pope Road just outside town.
Williams reportedly fled the scene after he saw Anderson arrive. A chase ensued, then a struggle. Anderson was shot during that struggle.
A manhunt continued into the early morning hours involving Duplin and Sampson counties' sheriff deputies and the SBI.
Anderson was taken to Duplin General Hospital in Kenansville and transferred to Pitt Memorial Hospital in Greenville, where he was released the following day.
O'Connell he said he visited Anderson at his home Wednesday.
"He's doing pretty good," the chief said.
O'Connell said the bullet is still in Anderson's body, and doctors are waiting for scar tissue to form around it before they try to remove it.
